Significance and Use3.1 The purpose of this specification is to provide meaning-ful tests for rubber cellular cushion used for carpet or rugunderlay.4. Classification4.1 The following classes of flexible, cellu
9、lar, high-densityrubber adhered to carpets, rugs, and separate substrates arecovered.4.1.1 Class A, for moderate traffic use within one and twofamily, multi-family, and care-type dwelling units. Moderatetraffic areas are areas such as living rooms, dining rooms,bedrooms, and recreation rooms.4.1.2 C
10、lass B, for heavy traffic use for public areas such aslobbies and corridors of multifamily and care-type facilities;entrances, stairways, and elevators.5. Physical Requirements5.1 The material shall conform to the requirements forphysical properties prescribed in Table 1.6. Sampling and Sample Prepa
11、ration6.1 Select representative samples of the lot being examinedat random as required.6.2 Each sample shall consist of a 200 6 10-mm wide striptaken across the full width of the finished rug, carpet, orunderlayment, or other substrate. For narrow products such asrunners, it will occasionally be nec
12、essary to use a strip 300 mmor more to furnish all the test specimens. If the product is nothomogeneous across the full width, reject the sample andobtain another sample. Prior to cutting, read the samplerequirements so as to plan the cutting pattern properly.1This specification is under the jurisdi

After cutting thespecimens, identify the originating area on the foam side.6.4 Cut three 50 6 1mmby1506 3-mm sp
17、ecimens fromthe sample, one from each side area and one from the center.Cut the long dimension parallel to the warp threads of thecarpet or rug, if applicable.6.5 Die-cut six 100 6 2mmby1006 2-mm specimens,two from each side area and two from the center. Die-cut thespecimens with the foam side again
18、st the cutting die.6.6 Cut at least one 50 6 1mmby1006 2-mm specimenfrom the remaining sample.7. Test Methods7.1 Unless specifically stated otherwise, all tests shall bemade in accordance with the methods specified in Sections9-16.8. Inspection and Rejection8.1 All tests and inspection shall be made
19、 at the place ofmanufacture prior to shipment unless otherwise specified.8.2 It is acceptable for any material that fails in one or moreof the test requirements to be resampled at another area andretested. Failure of the retest shall be cause for final rejection.8.3 The manufacturer shall certify th
20、at the material is incompliance with this specification.9. Test Conditions9.1 Condition the specimens for a minimum of 24 h at 23 62C and 50 6 10 % relative humidity. If other conditions areused, note these conditions in the report.10. Area Density of Foam Backing10.1 ProcedureWeigh the six 100 mm b
21、y 100-mm speci-mens separately and record the mass to the nearest 0.01 g.Using suitable equipment, for example, an electric carvingknife and supporting guides, separate the foam backing fromthe primary carpet backing by cutting at the line where thetextile component meets the foam component. Cut as
22、closely aspossible without damaging the primary carpet backing. Keepthe foam specimens for further tests. Remove any remainingfoam from the primary carpet backing by brushing it with astiff wire-bristle brush. Weigh each carpet specimen separatelyand record the mass to the nearest 0.01 g.10.2 Calcul
23、ationFor each specimen, calculate the mass(M) of the foam as the difference between the total mass andthe mass of the carpet with foam backing removed. Report theaverage of the six results. Calculate the mass per unit area inkilograms per square metre by dividing the average mass bythe area of the s
24、pecimen.
