Scope*1.1 This specification covers alloy steel castings, whichhave been subjected to special heat treatment, for valves,flanges, fittings, and other pressure-containing parts (Note 1)intended primarily for high-temperature service.1.2 The high-temperature properties of the materi
4、als cov-ered in this specification are dependent upon special heattreatment that is required. Although the high-temperatureproperties are not specified, they are implied by control ofchemistry, heat treatment, and room-temperature properties.1.3 Two grades of ferritic alloy steel are covered (Note 2
5、).Selection will depend on the design and service conditions,mechanical properties, and high-temperature characteristics.NOTE 1Carbon steel castings for pressure-containing parts are cov-ered by Specification A 216/A 216M. Alloy steel castings are covered bySpecification A 217/A 217M.NOTE 2The grade
6、s covered by this specification represent materialsthat are generally suitable for assembly with other castings or wroughtsteel parts by fusion welding. It is not intended to imply that these gradespossess equal degrees of weldability; therefore, it is the responsibility ofthe purchaser to establish
7、 for himself a suitable welding technique. Sincethese grades possess varying degrees of suitability for resistance tooxidation and for high-temperature service, it is also the responsibility ofthe purchaser to determine which grade shall be furnished, due consider-ation being given to the requiremen
8、ts of the applicable construction codes.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two sy

12、teel investment castings, material furnishedto this specification shall conform to the requirements ofSpecification A 703/A 703M, including any supplementaryrequirements that are indicated in the purchase order. Failure tocomply with the general requirements of A 703/A 703M con-stitutes nonconforman
13、ce with the specification. In case ofconflict between the requirements of this specification andA 703/A 703M, this specification shall prevail.3.2 Steel investment castings furnished to this specificationshall conform to the requirements of Specification A 985/A 985M, including any supplementary req
14、uirements that areindicated in the purchase order. In case of con-flict between the requirements of this specification and Speci-fication A 985/A 985M, Specification A 9

Ordering Information4.1 The inquiry and order should include or indicate thefollowing:4.1.1 A description of the casting by pattern number ordrawing (dimensional tolerances shall be included on thecasting drawing),4.1.2 Grade of steel,4.1.3 Options in the specification, and
19、4.1.4 The supplementary requirements desired including thestandards of acceptance.5. Heat Treatment5.1 All castings shall receive a heat treatment proper to theirdesign and chemical composition. Heat treatment shall beperformed before machining except in instances when reheattreating is necessary. A
20、ll castings shall have been allowed tocool, after pouring, to a temperature below the critical rangebefore heat treatment.5.2 At the option of the manufacturer the castings may begiven any preliminary heat treatment that will aid in theirprocessing.5.3 All castings shall receive a final heat treatme
