6、N BULK AMENDMENTS TO THE CODE FOR EXISTING SHIPS (adopted by the Martime Safety Committee at its thirty-ninth session) 1 An amendment to the Code, when adopted by the Maritime Safety Committee, should become applicable according to the following time scale after the date of its adoption, unless anot
7、her date is specified by the Maritime Safety Committee: .I relaxations - immediately; .2 all other amendments -a period as determined by the Maritime Safety Committee at the time of their adoption. Implementation Dates The implementation dates of the Code are indicated in the margin to the respectiv
8、e amendment, in accordance with the above Guidel ines. “IMM“ in the margin indicates that the amendments come into force immediately or “1“ one year (or any other period) after adoption of the amendments by the Maritime Safety Committee. 5 FIRST SET OF AMENDMENTS (adopted by the Maritime Safety Comm
9、ittee at its thirty-eighth session, 19 April, 1978) CHAPTER VI - MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION Table 6.5 - In column 1 amend entry: IMM “O and above“ to read “-5 and above“. CHAPTER XI - FIRE PROTECTION AND FIRE EXTINGUISHING Paragraph 11.6.1 - Amend to read: IMM “1 1.6.1 All ships should comply with th
10、e requirements of Regulation 52(j) of Chapter i 1-2 of the 1974 Safety Convention. In addition, in ships carrying flammable products of a cargo capacity of 2,000 m3 and over but ,less than 5,000 m3 two firemens outfits should be provided and on ships of a cargo capacity of 5,000 m3 and over three fi
11、remens outfits should be provided. Firemens outfits should comply with the requirements of Regula- tion 14 of Chapter 11-2 of the 1974 Safety Convention.“ CHAPTER XIV - PERSONNEL PROTECTION Section 14.3 -Amend to read: IMM “14.3 Sufficient, but not less than two complete sets of safety equipment in
12、addition to the firemens outfits required by 11.6.1, each permitting personnel to enter and work in a gas-filled space, should be provided.“ Section 14.5 - Amend to read: IMM “14.5 (a) An adequate supply of compressed air should be provided and should consist either of: (i) one set of fully charged
13、air-bottles for each breathing apparatus required by 14.3, a special air compressor suitable for the supply of high pressure air of the required purity, and a charging manifold capable of dealing with sufficient spare breathing apparatus cylinders for the breathing apparatus required by 14.3; or (i)
14、 fully charged spare air-bottles with a total free air capacity of at least 6,000 litres for each breathing apparatus required by 14.3. 7 (b) Alternatively, the Administration may accept a low pressure air line system with hose connexions suitable for use with the breathing appara- tus required by 1
15、4.3. This system should provide sufficient high pressure air capacity to supply, through pressure reduction devices, enough low pressure air to enable two men to work in a gas dangerous space for at least one hour without using the cylinders of the breathing apparatus. Means should be provided for r
16、echarging the fixed air-bottles and the breathing apparatus cylinders from a special air compressor suitable for the supply of high pressure air of the required purity.“ CHAPTER XVII - SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Paragraph 17.2.3 - Amend to read: IMM “1 7.2.3 In ships of a cargo capacity of 2,000 m3 and ov
17、er, two complete sets of safety equipment should be provided in addition to the equipment required by 11.6.1 and 14.3. At least three spare charged air-bottles should be provided for each self-contained air-breathing apparatus required in this paragraph.“ 8 SECOND SET OF AMENDMENTS (adopted by the M
18、aritime Safety Committee at its fortieth session, 8 May 1979) CONTENTS Chapter XV I I - Special Requirements - add six new headings: “Section 10 - Vapour return connexions Section 11 - Toxic products Section 12 - High level alarm Section 13 - Flame screens on vent outlets Section 14 - Maximum allowa
19、ble quantity of cargo per tank Section 15 - Tanks used for carriage of products“ CHAPTER I - GENERAL Paragraph 1.2.4 - Replace by: IMM “1.2.4 Except as provided in 1.2.5(a), when it is intended to carry products covered by this Code and products covered by the Code for the Construction and Equipment
20、 of Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bu1 k, Resolution A.212(VI I) (referred to hereunder as the Bu1 k Chemical Code) as amended, the ship should comply with the requirements of both Codes appropriate to the products carried.“ Paragraph 1.2.5 - Replace by: IMM “1.2.5 (a) The-rquiremeiits of thi
21、s Code should take precedence when a ship is designed and constructed for the carriage of the following products: (i) those listed exclusively in Chapter XIX of this Code; and (i) one or more of the products which are listed both in this Code and the Bu1 k Chemical Code as amended. These productsare
22、marked with an asterisk (“1 in table column (al of Chapter XIX. (b) When a ship is intended exclusively to carry one or more of the products noted in 125(a)(ii), the requirenients of the Bulk Chemical Code as amended should apply.“ IMM Paragraph ?.2.G - Rencrnber 1.2.4 as 7.2.6.
