2、partment of the Army, and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers one type of waterproof gun-firing relay assembly with a nominal rating of 24 volts circuits of military combat vehicles. The assembly consists of
3、 relays which control the firing of the main gun by the operation of a time delay circuit and a separate fast-operating, fast-release relay which controls the firing of the machine gun (see 6.1). direct current (dc) for use in the main gun and machine gun 2. In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes appl
10、icable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection in accordance with 4.3. 3.2 Desien materials. and manufiu%ring process. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2)
11、, the design, materials, and manufhcturing process selection is the prerogative of the contractor as long as ali articles submited to the government fully meet the interface and interoperability, environmental, support and ownership, and operating requirements specified herein. 3.2.1 Recycled. recov
12、erd or environmentallv preferable materials. Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible provided that the materia meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements, and promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs. 3.
13、3 Interface and interoperabiity requirements. The relay assembly shall conform to the envelope dimensions, and the electrical and mounting interfaces as shown in Drawing 8338636. 3.3.1 Grounding. The nish around the mounting holes shaU provide positive electrical contact to ground when the assembly
14、is normally mounted. The maximum weight of the re
15、lay assembly shall be four pounds (lb). 3.3.3 Mounting bracket. When brackets are used, they shall be an integral part of the housing or shall be securely attached thereto, in a manner to prevent any movement between assembly and the mounting bracket in service. 3.3.4 Polarity. The relay assembly sh
16、all operate in a circuit having the negative battery terminal grounded. 3.4 Environmental requirements. The design, materials, and construction of relay assembly shal enable the unit to operate in the following environmental conditions The relay assembly shall subsequently meet the requirements spec
17、ified in 3.6.1, 3.6.4, 3.6.5, 3.6.7, and 3.6.8. 3.4.1 Vibration. The relay assembly shall evidence no mechanical or electrical malfnction (opening or closing of relay contacts). 3.4.2 Shock. The relay assembly shall evidence no mechanical or electrical malfunction (opening or closing of relay contac
18、ts). 3.4.3 Corrosion. Metals shall be of a corrosion-resistant type or shall be treated to resist corrosion. The relay shali evidence no corrosion. 3.4.4 Waterproofness. The relay assembly shall be waterproof 3.5 Suoprt and ownership requirements. 3.5.1 Materials. The relay assembly shall not produc
19、e any hazards to personnel or the environment resulting from the use of asbestos or cadmium. 3.5.1.1. Dissimilar metals. Except where necessary to complete an electrical circuit, there shall be no contact between dissimilar metals, which would encourage galvanic action. 3.5.2 Springs. Springs shall
20、not be used to transmit current. 3.5.3 Endurance. The relay assembly shall remain mechanically and electrically operative and the voltage drop across the main gun and machine gun relay contacts carrying rated current, shall not exceed the limits specified in 3.6.7. The relay assembly shal subsequent

Exterior sudiices of the relay assembly housing shall be white. 3.5.5 Ident
22、ification marking. Identification marking shall be permanent and legible and, as a minimum, shall include the following: a. ?Relay assembly: gun-firing? b. ?24 Vdc waterproof? c. Military Part Number (Pl?) (see 6.2) d. Manufacturer?s name e. Manufacturer?s serial number (if applicable) f. Date of ma
23、nufixture (month, year) 3.6 ODerating reauirements. 3.6.1 Time delav. The relay shall provide a time delay (time the main gun-firing relay contacts are closed) between O. 10 and 0.50 seconds throughout the operating voltage range of 18 to 30 Vdc. The relay assembly shall subsequently meet the requir
24、ements specified in 3.5.3 and 3.6.2 through 3.6.8. 3.6.2 Operating current. When the main gun relay is energized, the operating current shall not be more than 0.35 amperes (A). 3.6.3 Dielectric strength. The relay assembly shall evidence no loosening, cracking, burning, smoking, rupturing or any oth
