3、 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION COCK, PLUG: AIR SUPPLY, VEHICULAR, AIR BRAKE SYSTEM The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description (CID) as a replacement for MS500046B for all federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This CID covers one type of plug cock, which is use

4、d in the vehicular air brake system. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 2.1 Materials. Unless otherwise specified herein, the materials used shall be in accordance with the manufacturers material specifications for plug cocks. The use of recovered material made in compliance with regulatory requirements is

5、acceptable provided all the requirements of this CID are met (see note d). 2.1.1 Body and plug. The body and plug shall be made from copper alloy, brass forging, or copper alloy calling material. Forging hardness shall be in accordance with the manufacturers specifications/drawings. Casting conditio

6、n shall be as cast. 2.1.2 Fittings and hardware. Fittings and hardware shall be zinc plated in accordance with ASTM B633-85, Type Class SC3 (FE/Zn13). 2.2 Design and construction. Unless otherwise specified in figure 1, the plug cock shall be designed and constructed in accordance with the manufactu

8、kage shall be no more than a 1/2 inch bubble in five seconds at 100 pounds per square inch (psi) pressure with the handle in the fully opened position (see figure 1) and with air vent at top plugged. 2.4 Identification markings. Identification markings shall be permanent and legible and shall includ

9、e, as a minimum, the manufacturers identification code (CAGE) and part number, and the part identification number (PIN) A52448-1. 3. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used t

10、o the maximum extent possible provided that the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements, and promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with parag

11、raph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 4. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. The contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspections (examinations and tests). 4.2 Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify and maintain substant

12、iating evidence that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, workmanship standards, and quality assurance practices. Items with known defects shall not be submitted for Gove

13、rnment acceptance. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to the first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract. 5. PACKAGING Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking for the desired level shall

14、 be as specified in the contract or order (see note b). 6. Plug cocks conforming to this CID are interchangeable/substitutable with plug cocks conforming to MS500046B, dated 16 February 1988. 6.4 Metric products. Metric cock plugs will be co

19、nsidered on the following basis: 6.4.1 Metric dimensions. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided they fall within specified tolerances using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of IEEE/AS

20、TM SI10, and all other requirements of this CID are met. 6.4.2 Metric tolerances. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch/pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is accepta

21、ble. 6.4.3 Metric acceptance. The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product. 6.5 Key words.
