1、27 February 1973 SUPERSEDING MIL-S-28931A(MC) 13 December 1971 MILITARY SPECIFICATION SHELTERS, GENERAL PURPOSE: EXPANDABLE, TRANSPORTABLE This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope - This specification covers lightweight,
2、mobile, field expandable shelters designed for transport by military cargo truck, fixed or rotary winged aircraft, rail, ship, dolly set, or landing craft. Each shelter shall be capable of, independent transport and operation as well as deployment with another identical shelter as an. expandable com
3、plex. 1.2 Classification. The shelters shall be of the following types as specified (see 6.2): Type I - 12-foot shelter Type II - 16-foot shelter Unless otherwise specified herein, requirements shall apply to both types. 2. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or order (see 6.2), the contractor shall furnish one first article of each type shelt
13、er to be supplied under the contract to determine compliance with this specification. First articles shall reflect the minimum conditions to be used in production including length and amount of welds, riumber of rivets and amounts of adhesive and sealer used. 3.2 Parts and materials, Parts and mater
14、ials shall be as specified herein. Parts and materials not covered by this specification shall be the best comercial quality and the lightest practicable weight readily available in this country. In the selection of parts and materials, fulfillment of major design objectives shall bethe prime consid
15、eration. MIL-E-16400 shall be given first consideration. If the contractor can demonstrate that the use of preferred parts or materials will not fulfill the design objectives because of size, weight, performance or other reasons, parks or materials shall be used which most nearly meet or exceed the
16、performance requirements of this specification, provided the requirements of size, weight, performance or reliability wi11 not be impaired as a resdt of such substitutions, In ali. cases, the meeting of general requirements such as nonflammability, fungus resistance, mntoxicity and the meeting of en

Tropicalization of the shel
18、ter and support equipment shall be accomplished by the selection of fungus inert parts and materials. Where the foregoing is impractical, the parts and materials shall be treated in accordance with the following. 3.2.1.1 Treatinq materials. Treating materials containing a mercury-bearing fungicide s
19、hall not be used. shall determine that the treating material is compatible with the material or surface to be treated. treating materials shall be such that any increase in flammability of treated material will be held to the practical minimum. 3.2.1.2 Toxicitv. Treating materials shall cause no ski
20、n irritation or other injury to personnel handling the treated material during fabrication, transportation, operation, or maintenance of the shelter and support equipment, or during use of the finished items when used for the purpose intended. 3.2.1,3 Flexibility. Treatment shall not affect the flex
21、ibility of treated materials to the extent that the equipment may fail to meet requirements specified hereia when subjected to the serviceconditions specified herein. 3.2.1.4 Statement of treatment. The contractor shall -suhit to the contracting officer, for approval, a state- ment describing in det
