Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers the requirements for dir
3、ect andindirect reading sight liquid level indicators for general appli-cations. General applications for indirect reading sight glassesare water and fuel service at working pressures 2.07 MPa (300lb/in.2) and below, temperatures of 149C (300F) and below.General applications for direct reading sight
4、 glasses are appli-cations in which the temperature does not exceed 66C(150F).1.2 Direct reading sight glass indicators may consist of glassor plastic tubes with fittings including shutoff valves. Glasstubes may be used for low shock direct reading sight glassindicators in which the fluid is not com
5、patible with plastic.1.3 Indirect reading indicators may consist of a sealedchamber with a magnetic float or flag indicator.1.4 Special requirements for naval shipboard applicationsare included in the supplement to this standard.1.5 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. 7、surement recognized by the CIPM (Comite Internationaldes Poids et Mesures).4. Design Classification4.1 TypesIndicator designs are classified as either directreading or indirect reading. Both types are depicted in Fig. 1,complete with dimensions that facilitate ordering.4.2 Special ConsiderationsSpec
8、ial considerations thatmay affect selection and installation are listed below. This isnot to be construed as a complete listing.(1) Type of indicator,(2) Manual or automatic shutoff valves,(3) Indication length of liquid level range,(4) Method of connection,(5) Location of indicator relative to vibr
9、ating equipment,(6) Protection of the instrumentation,(7) Application of each indicator,(8) Cleaning procedure or reference to the cleaning proce-dure being used, and(9) Selection of indicator for compatibility with materials,temperature, pressure, ambient environment, and with theparameter being me

Ordering Information5.1 The buyer shall provide the manufacturer with all of thepertinent application data outlined in the acquisition require-ments.5.2 Acquisition RequirementsAcquisition documentsshall specify the following:(1) Title, number, and date of this specification;(2) Type and q
11、uantity of indicators required;(3) Manufacturers part number;(4) When qualification testing is required;(5) Final disposition of qualification test samples;(6) Environmental requirements;(7) Operating media;(8) Viscosity and specific gravity of fluid for indirectindicators;(9) Materials;(10) Indicat

Materials and Manufacture6.1 MaterialsThe materials for all wetted parts shall beselected for long-term compatibility with the process mediumand ambient conditions.6.2 Material Inspe
16、ctionThe manufacturer shall be respon-sible for ensuring that materials used are manufactured, exam-ined, and tested in accordance with the specifications andstandards as applicable.6.3 Gaskets and O-RingsGaskets and O-rings shall befabricated of materials suitable to the operating pressure,temperat
17、ure, and process medium for each application.7. Physical Properties7.1 ConnectionsSight indicators are usually installed us-ing standard pipe fittings or flanges. Pipe fittings and materialshould match that of the existing pipe for each installation.Type and size of fittings shall be specified in th
18、e acquisitionrequirements. Welding or brazing shall be performed in accor-dance with industry standards.7.2 Flanged ConnectionsWhere sight indicators are in-stalled using flanges, flanges shall be in accordance with ANSIB16.5. Standard flange sizes include 1.27 cm (12 in.), 1.9 cm(34 in.), 2.54 cm (
19、1 in.), 3.8 cm (1-12 in.), and 5.08 cm (2 in.).Standard flange pressure ratings include 1.034 MPa (150 psi),2.07 MPa (300 psi), and 4.14 MPa (600 psi). Other flangerequirements shall be specified in the acquisition requirements.7.3 Vent and Drain ConnectionsWhere required, vent anddrain connections
20、are usually plugged,12-or34-in. NPT orwith NPT valves. Other vent and drain connections shall bespecified in the acquisition requirements.8. Performance Requirements8.1 Performance ConsiderationsIn many applications,certain performance characteristics are deemed critical to theintended or desired fu

Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 Finish and AppearanceAny special su
22、rface finish andappearance requirements shall be specified in the acquisitionrequirements.9.2 Sight Glass CleaningAny special cleaning require-ments shall be specified in the acquisition requirements.10. Inspection10.1 Classification of InspectionsThe inspection require-ments specified herein are cl
23、assified as follows:(1) Qualification testing and(2) Quality conformance testing.10.2 Qualification TestingQualification test requirementsshall be specified where applicable. Qualification test methodsshould be identified for each design and performance charac-teristic specified. Test report documen
24、tation requirementsshould also be specified.10.3 Quality Conformance TestingQuality conformancetesting is accomplished when qualification testing was satisfiedby a previous acquisition or product has demonstrated reliabil-ity in similar applications. Quality conformance testing isusually less intens
