Scope1.1 This specification covers the optical and aesthetic qual-ity requirements for coatings applied to glass for use inbuilding glazi

3、ng.1.2 The coatings covered are applied to the glass usingeither pyrolytic or vacuum (sputtering) deposition methods andare typically applied to control solar heat gain, energy perfor-mance, comfort level, and condensation and enhance theaesthetic of the building.1.3 This specification addresses ble

20、nificance and Use4.1 This specification groups coated glass according toapplication. These groups are: vision, spandrel/nonvision, andoverhead. Similar but unique quality tolerances and inspectionguidelines have been outlined for each application. The glass tobe coated shall comply with the applicab

21、le provisions ofSpecification C1036 and Specification C1048.4.2 Coating blemishes are an inherent part of the glass-coating process. In addition, coatings can be damaged as aresult of improper transportation, storage, handling, fabrica-tion, or installation.4.3 Individual manufacturers should be con

22、tacted for rec-ommended handling, fabrication, installation, and applicationguidelines.5. Classification5.1 KindsCoated flat glass furnished under this specifica-tion shall be of the following kinds, as specified:5.1.1 Kind CVFlat transparent glass conforming to theapplicable requirements of Specifi

23、cation C1036 or Specifica-tion C1048 or both and having a coating applied to one or moreof the glass surfaces which further conforms with the require-ments hereinafter specified for coated vision glass.5.1.2 Kind COFlat transparent glass conforming to theapplicable requirements of Specification of C

24、1036 or Specifi-cation C1048 or both and having a coating applied to one ormore of the glass surfaces which further conforms withrequirements hereinafter specified for coated overhead glass.5.1.3 Kind CSFlat glass conforming to the applicablerequirements of Specifications of C1036 or SpecificationC1

25、048 or both and having a coating applied to one or more ofthe glass surfaces that further conforms with the requirementshereinafter specified for coated spandrel glass.NOTE 3Coated spandrel glass may have additional material designedto opacify the glass that is not included in the scope of this spec

Requirements6.1 Blemishes for Coated Vision GlassThe type andnumber of blemishes shall be no greater than those specified inTable 1.6.2 Blemishes for Coated Overhead GlassThe type andnumber of blemishes shall be no greater than those specified inTable 2.6.3 Blemishes for Coated Spandrel

27、 GlassThe type andnumber of blemishes shall be no greater than those specified inTable 3.6.4 Nonuniformity for Coated GlassThe phenomenon ofnonuniformity in coated glass may be visible within anindividual lite, or between lites of glass, in a particular buildingor curtain wall. Consultation with sup

28、pliers and viewing fullsize mock-ups under typical site conditions and surroundinglandscape is highly recommended before construction.6.4.1 The scientific nature of controlling gas flow, electricalcharges, and coating layer densities require production toler-ances for light transmittance, reflectanc

29、e, and color of coatedglass products. Glass within allowable production tolerancesmay yield differences in reflected color or intensity of lighttransmittance or reflectance or both. Perceivable differencesare not immediate cause for rejection.6.4.2 Glass should be viewed as installed and from theext

30、erior of the building in daylight for color uniformitycomparison. Coating nonuniformity may occur from lite to litein a building (See Appendix X1.). It may also occur within alite in the form of edge-to-edge gradation, banding, mottling,or picture framing. In order to quantify color variation,measur

If a manufacturers color target is not used, thefollowing procedure for establishing a reference shall beincorporated:6.4.3.1 Using a mobile/handheld spectrophotometer, color

37、readings will be taken and documented from the exterior of thebuilding from 10 units of like construction that have beeninstalled in the same plane and elevation of the building anddeemed to be acceptable by the manufacturer in terms of theirappearance. If it is not physically practical or possible

38、tomeasure 10 units, as many units as possible shall be measured.6.4.3.2 For lite to lite nonuniformity, establishing a refer-ence will be done by taking a minimum of 1 reading peracceptable unit in the central area of each unit within 6 2 in. ofgeometric center. If access to the glass does not allow

39、 you toreach the geometric center, measure the glass as close to centeras possible. Average the value of the readings taken on each ofthe units (10 minimum ideally) to determine the target forcalculating DE*ab. Once the target has been established, take ameasurement on the unit in question and calcu

40、late DE*ab.6.4.3.3 For edge to edge, banding, mottling, or pictureframing nonuniformity within a unit, readings shall be taken inlocations within the lite representing areas of visual colordifference. The DE*ab calculated between these measurementsshall be less than 4.5.6.4.4 Units may have a percei

41、ved color difference due tooff-angle (non-normal incidence) viewing. This is particularlytrue with highly selective solar control coatings which areengineered to maximize visible light transmission and mini-mize infrared transmission. This angular color variation is notreason for rejection if the gl

42、ass in question does not exceed theE*ab of 4.5 using the normal incidence measurement proce-dure outlined above.NOTE 4Design professionals and building owners should be awarethat certain coated glass products will yield color differences when used inadjacent vision and spandrel area conditions and w
