14、has often led to compiaints of poor working conditions. This report is concerned with the visual aspects of VDU work as these have been the cause of some of the complaints. The first part of the report examines the nature of VDU work. It is concluded that the visual tasks undertaken by VDU operators

15、 are essentially similar to conventional office work. However, the quality of the VDU display and the interaction of the display with the keyboard and any source documents, and with the visual environment in which the VDU is placed, can have important effects on the visual difficulty and hence perfo

16、rmance of the task. The second part of the report discusses the health aspects of VDU work. it is concluded that the most commonly occunhg health aspects are some form of eyestrain and occasional aches and pains. The possibility that electromagnetic radiation emitted from VDUs may cause cataracts is

17、 dismissed. The third part of the report considers the visual requirements of VDU work in three sections: the VDU itself, the visual environment in which it is placed and the visual capabilities required of a VDU operator. Detailed advice is given on suitable display and keyboard characteristics, on

18、 overcoming the problems of luminance imbalance and high luminance reflections in interiors and on such visual Capabilities as the distances over which accommodation is necessary. The report is completed by a checklist which can be used to assess VDU installations. RESUME VISION ET ECRANS DE VISUALI

19、SATION Lintroduction des Ecrans de Visualisation dans le travail quotidien a souvent entrain des plaintes quant aux mauvaises conditions de travail Ce rapport concerne les aspects visuels de ce travail sur Ecran de Visualisation qui ont fait lobjet de certaines des plaintes. La premire partie du rap

20、port examine la nature du travail sur Ecran de Visualisation. On en conclut que les tches visuelles accomplies par les oprateurs sur Ecran de Visualisation sont pour lessentiel similaires ?i celles du travail conventionnel de bureau. Cependant les qualits du matriel Ecran de Visualisation, et les in

21、teractions de lcran avec le clavier et tout document source et avec lenvironnement visuel dans lequel 1Ecran de Visualisation est plac, peuvent avoir des effets importants su la difficult visuelle de la tche. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG SEHLEISTUNG UND BILDSCHIRMARBEITSPLTZE Die Einfhrung von BildschinnarbeitsplStzen in das Arbeitsleben hat oft zu Klagen ber schlechte Arbeitsbedingungen gefhrt. Dieser Bericht beschaftigt sich mit den visuellen Problemen der Bildschirmarbe

26、it, da diese die Ursache mancher Beschwerden waren. Im ersten Teil wird die Arbeit mit dem Bildschirm charakterisiert, wobei die Sehaufgaben am Bildschirmarbeitsplatz und die Sehaufgaben bei herkmmlicher Broarbeit ais gleich eingestuft werden. Die Schwierigkeit der visuellen Aufgabe kann jedoch ents

27、cheidend beeinflusst werden durch die Qualitt des Bildschirmgerats, durch Wechselwirkungen der Anzeige mit der Tastatur und mit Arbeitsvorlagen sowie durch die Umgebung, in der sich der Bildschirm befindet. Im zweiten Teil werden die die Gesundheit betreffenden Gesichtspunkte der Bildschirmarbeit di

28、skutiert. Der Bericht kommt zu dem Schluss, dass nicht selten eine Art von Augenberanstrengung und auch gelegentliche Augenschmerzen vorkommen. Die Mgichkeit, vom Bildschirmgert emittierte elektromagnetische Strahlung knne zu grauem Star fhren, wird jedoch zurckgewiesen. Im dritten Teil werden die v

29、isuellen Anforderungen in drei Abschnitten betrachtet: Anforderungen an das Bildschirmgert selbst, an sehe Umgebung und an die Sehfahigkeit des Benutzers. Im einezelnen wird empfohlen, wie die Anzeige und die Tastatur gnstig gestaltet werden konnen, wie unausgewogene Leuchtdichteverhltnisse und star

30、ke Reflexionen vermieden werden knnen und wie z. B. Akommodationsentfernungen bercksichtigt werden mssen. The floor reflectance is particularly important where luminaires with a strong downward luminous intensity distribution are used in an effort to avoid high luminance reflections in the display screen (see section 3.3.3). 45、rt because of static luminance imbalance between the VDU display and the sky seen through the window. Whilst the reflectances of the room surfaces are important, the luminances of views seen through windows should not be forgotten. Such luminances can be very high so there is good reason to fit wind

46、ows with blinds or curtains, preferably of reflectance in the range 0.5 to 0.7. In addition it is sensible to position VDUs so that the operator does not see the display against a background of the sky, but rather position the display in a plane perpendicular to the windows. - 17 COPYRIGHT Internati

48、ibility of discomfort occurring when the operator has to frequently change fixation from one component to another. If the luminances of the two components are very different, the operator may experience discomfort and visual performance may suffer. The luminances of the source documents and keyboard

49、 are governed by their reflectances and by the illuminance on them. Source documents usually have a high reflectance and, if the recommendations given earlier have been followed, the keyboard will have a medium/high reflectance. Keyboards, and often source documents, are seen on a near horizontal plane, and for most lighting systems the illuminance on a horizontal plane will be greater than that on the vertical plane of the display.
