2、dards system in 1973. It is a not-for-profit, nonstatutoly, voluntary membership association engaged in stand- ards development and certification activities. CSA standards reflect a national consensus of produc- ers and users including manufacturers, consumers, retailers, unions and professional org

3、anizations, and governmental agencies. The standards are used widely by industry and commerce and often adopted by mu- nicipal, provincial, and federal governments in their regulations, particularly in the fields of health, safety, building and construction, and the environment. Individuals, compani

4、es, and associations across Can- ada indicate their support for CSA s standards develop- ment by volunteering their time and skills to CSA Committee work and supporting the Associations ob- jectives through sustaining memberships. The more than 7000 committee volunteers and the 2000 sustain- ing mem

5、berships together form CSA s total membership from which its Directors are chosen. Sustaining mem- berships represent a major source of income for CSAs standards development activities. The Association offers certification and testing services in sup port of and as an extension to its standards deve

6、lopment activities. To ensure the integrity of its certification process, the Association regularly and con- tinually audits and inspects products that bear the CSA Mark. Scope 1.1 This S

20、tandard applies to both cord-connected and permanently connected storage-tank water heaters*, having tanks less than 610 mm inside diameter, for use on nominal system voltages of 600 V and less, and designed to be used in nonhazardous household and commercial locations in accordance with the Rules o

21、f the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. *For convenience only, the shorter term water heater is used herein. 1.2 This Standard applies to water heaters that provide for the storage of hot water. The water shall be heated by immersion heater elements within the tank, wrap-around or other form of surf

22、ace contact heater elements, or electrically heated circulation type units located either within the jacket or externally. Other types of electric heating, except as excluded by Clause 1.3, may be accepted subject to investigation. 1.3 This Standard applies to the water-heater section of kitchen uni

23、ts, combined with a cooking range, refrigerator, water pump, etc. 1.4 This Standard does not apply to (a) immersion type water heaters (see Clause 2); (b) side-arm type water heaters not attached to a storage tank; or (c) immersed-electrode type water heaters. 2. Definitions 2.1 The following defini

24、tions apply in this Standard: Built-in water heateran assembly of water tank, heater elements, thermostats, and insulation, but no outer shell or enclosure. Factory setfor the purposes of this Standard, any of the following conditions: (a) the physical setting of the controls as shipped from the fac

25、tory if no adjustment is required or possible at the time of installation; (b) the setting achieved by placing the controls in the “ON” position at the time of installation if the control was shipped from the factory in the “OFF” position; or (c) the setting achieved by placing the controls in the o

26、perating position as marked with a line, detent, wording, or some other means to indicate the nominal operating position if the control has multiple operating settings but was shipped from the factory in the “OFF” or lowest available position. 34、e binding terminal parts and the identification of supply terminal parts and leads shall comply with the requirements of CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0, except that terminal screws smaller than 5 mm may be of suitably plated ferrous material. 4.9 Electrical Insulation 4.9.1 Current-carrying parts

35、shall be supported on heat-resistant, moisture-absorption-resistant insulating material which is suitable for the particular application and which will withstand the most severe conditions likely to be encountered in service. Note: Materials such as mica, porcelain, phenolic composition, cold-moulde

36、d, and certain refractory materials are generally acceptable as the sole support of live parts. 4.9.2 The acceptability of insulating material shall include consideration of (a) mechanical strength; (b) dielectric strength; (c) insulation resistance; (d) heat-resistant and moisture-absorption-resist

37、ant properties; (e) degree of enclosure or protection; and (f) any other factors which might have a bearing on the fire and accident hazard under conditions of actual use. 4.10 Thermal Insulation 4.10.1 Thermal insulating material shall be suitable for the particular application. Electrically conduc

38、tive, combustible, or slow-burning insulation shall not contact current-carrying parts. If foam is used, but not within a metal housing, it shall have a flame spread rating of 25 or less and a smoke developed rating of 50 or less, in accordance with ULC Standard CAN/ULC-S102. Note: Compliance with t

39、he dielectric strength test (see Clause 6.4.1) will normally be sufficient indication of the electrical conductivity of the thermal insulation, without additional investigation. 4.10.2 Thermal insulating material shall be enclosed and retained so that it will not shift position during handling or in

40、stallation of the water heater in such a way as to affect adversely the operation of controls or the temperature of wiring, etc. Note: Built-in type water heaters need not have the thermal insulation enclosed, provided that means are used to retain it in place until the water heater has been install

41、ed. 4.10.3 Synthetic foam shall be not less than 25 mm from electrical components. 4.11 Wiring 4.11.1 Wiring connections and wires between parts of water heaters shall be adequately enclosed (see CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0).CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 110-94 Canadian Standards Association July 2009 8 (R

42、eplaces p. 8, December 1994) 4.11.2 Wireways shall be smooth and entirely free from sharp edges, burrs, moving parts, etc, which may cause abrasion of the insulation or conductors. 4.11.3 All holes in sheet-metal walls through which insulated conductors pass shall be provided with smoothly rounded b

43、ushings or shall have smooth, well-rounded surfaces upon which the wires may bear. Note: Insulated conductors may be bunched and passed through a single opening. 4.11.4 The internal wiring of water heaters shall consist of wire of a type or types which are suitable for the particular application, wh

44、en considered with respect to the following: (a) the temperature and voltage to which the wire is liable to be subjected; (b) exposure to moisture; and (c) other conditions of service to which the wire is liable to be subjected. 4.11.5 The ampacity of conductors shall be such that the limiting tempe

45、rature for the insulation is not exceeded under normal conditions of use. 4.11.6 Bare conductors shall be rigidly supported so that the spacings required by Clause 4.18 will be maintained. 4.11.7 Joints in conductors, connectors, and the insulation thereon shall comply with the requirements of CSA S

46、tandard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0, unless they are held securely and rigidly so that the spacings required by Clause 4.18 will be maintained. 4.11.8 Soldered connections shall be made mechanically secure before soldering. 4.12 Heater Elements 4.12.1 Heater elements shall be supported in a substantial and

47、reliable manner within the enclosure and shall be protected against mechanical injury and contact with outside objects. 4.12.2 Heater elements that are intended to be readily replaced in the field shall be constructed so that replacement will not result in (a) damage of the heater element enclosure

48、or other electrical components of the water heater; (b) reduction of spacings, either in the heater element or in the water heater, below those required by Clause 4.18; or (c) increased temperature in materials above the limiting values of Table 2 or of the water (see Clause 4.14). 49、s Association Construction and Test of Electric Storage-Tank Water Heaters July 2009 (Replaces p. 9, January 2004) 9 4.13 Thermostats and Switches 4.13.1 Thermostats and switches shall comply with the applicable requirements of CSA Standards CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 14, C22.2 No. 24, C22.2 No. 55, and C22.2 No. 111. 4.13.2 If a switch is provided on a water heater rated 208 V or above, it shall be a double-pole switch. 4.13.3 Thermostats and switches shall be suitable for their particular application and shall have current and voltage ratings not less than t
