Significance and Use3.1 The magnitude of the changes in the electrical propertiesof the silicone fluid is of importance in determining thecontamination of the flui
10、d by the test specimen.3.2 Physical and chemical changes in the fluid, such as colorand acidity, also indicate solubility or other adverse effects ofthe test specimen on the fluid.3.3 Physical changes of the test specimen, such as hardness,swelling, and discoloration, show the effect of the fluid on
11、 thetest specimen and are used to determine the suitability of thematerial for use in silicone fluid.3.4 A material meeting the criteria recommended does notnecessarily indicate suitability for use in electrical equipment.Other properties must also be considered. 15、ilicone fluids other than 50cSt poly-dimethyl siloxane fluid, but different criteria forjudgment may be necessary.4. Apparatus4.1 Sample-Handling Apparatus:4.1.1 Oven, forced draft, adjustable to 120 6 1C, and adrying oven, adjustable to 105 6 5C.4.1.2 Glass Containers, 1-L, fitted with glass or alu
16、minumfoil covers (Note 1).NOTE 1Other materials have been found to be suitable as covers.4.1.3 Fritted Glass Dispersion Tube (coarse).4.2 Sample-Testing Apparatus:4.2.1 Tensile StrengthAs specified in appropriate testmethod.4.2.2 HardnessAs specified in appropriate test method.4.2.3 Dimensional Chan

Reagents5.1 Dry Nitrogen Gas, Meeting the requirements of Speci-fication D 1933, Type III with the following exception: thetotal hydrocarbon content must by 0.5 ppm. Sometimesreferred to as Ultra-High Purity (UHP).5.2 Dimethyl Silicon
18、e Fluid (50 CSt), conforming to Speci-fication D 4652.6. Preparation of Test Specimen6.1 Test specimen size shall be such that the ratio of surfacearea to liquid volume is four times as large as the ratioencountered in normal use in electrical equipment unless thereis some special reason for using a
19、 different ratio (Note 2).Some suggested ratios are as follows:6.1.1 If the test specimen can be measured, no less than 52cm2is used with each 800 mL of silicone.6.1.2 If the test specimen is insoluble in silicone fluid andthe surface area cannot be measured, use a test specimen in theamount of 1 %
20、by weight of the silicone.6.1.3 If the material is soluble in the silicone fluid, use a testspecimen in the amount of 0.5 % by weight of the siliconefluid.6.1.4 When surface areas are employed for solid materialtesting, all sides of the solid material are to be used in thecalculation of surface area
21、 as long as that surface is in contactwith the silicone fluid.6.1.5 Varnishes and materials used as dip coatings, andpaints shall be cured on aluminum foil or paper known to becompatible with the silicone fluid. They should be tested at aratio of 14 g or approximately 1300 cm2of surface area per 800
22、mL of silicone fluid.6.1.6 Core steel and core-steel coatings shall be tested at aratio of 3100 cm2for each 400 mL of silicone fluid fortransformer applications. A realistic core steel ratio for regu-lators is 5000 cm2of surface area per each 400 mL of siliconefluid.6.1.7 Gasket materials shall be t
