Classification4.1 The insulation covered by this specification shall be ofthe following types:4.1.1 Type IBlanket in roll form up to 200 ft

Ordering Information5.1 Purchasers shall select the preferred options permittedherein and include the following information in procurementdocuments:5.1.1 Title, designation, and year of this specification.5.1.2 Type of insulation (see 4.1).5.1.3 Length, width, and thickness required (see 4.1).5

Materials and Manufacture6.1 Basic MaterialThe basic material shall be made fromglass processed from the molten state into fibrous form with abinder added to form dimensionally stable insulation. Asbestosshall not be us

20、ed as an ingredient or component part of theproduct.6.2 Air Stream SurfaceDepending on the insulation sur-face characteristics and service air velocity, the air streamsurface is plain or coated with a temperature resistant coatingor faced with a plain or coated fibrous mat or fabric.7. Physical Requ

21、irements7.1 Corrosiveness Steel OnlyWhen tested in accordancewith 12.3 per Specification C665, any corrosion resulting fromthe unfaced insulation in contact with steel plates shall bejudged to be no greater than the comparative plates in contactwith sterile cotton.7.1.1 Alternative Test Steel OnlyWh

22、en tested in accor-dance with 12.3.1 per Practice C1617, the mass loss corrosionrate of the unfaced insulation extract shall not exceed that ofthe 5-ppm chloride solution.7.2 Water Vapor SorptionWhen tested in accordance with12.4, the water vapor sorption of the insulation shall not bemore than 3 %

23、by weight.7.3 Fungi ResistanceWhen tested in accordance with12.5, the insulation shall be observed as having no fungalgrowth.7.4 Temperature ResistanceWhen tested in accordancewith 12.6, the air stream surface shall have no evidence offlaming, glowing, smoldering, visible smoke, or delamination,crac

24、king, deformation or reduction in thickness.7.5 Erosion ResistanceWhen tested in accordance with12.7, the insulation shall not break away, crack, peel, flake off,or show evidence of delamination or continued erosion whenair is passed through typical duct sections at a velocityspecified in 12.7.7.6 O

25、dor EmissionWhen tested in accordance with 12.8,adetectable odor of objectionable nature recorded by more thantwo of the five panel members shall constitute failure of thematerial.7.7 Surface Burning CharacteristicsWhen tested in accor-dance with 12.9, the air stream surface of the insulation shallh

26、ave a maximum flame spread index of 25 and a maximumsmoke developed index of 50.7.8 Apparent Thermal ConductivityWhen tested in accor-dance with 12.10, the apparent thermal conductivity (k) of theinsulation, expressed as Btuin/hft2F (W/mK) for thespecified thickness shall not exceed the values shown

27、 in Table1.7.9 Sound Absorption CoeffcientsWhen tested in accor-dance with 12.11, the insulation shall have sound absorptioncoefficients and noise reduction coefficients not less thanshown in Table 2.7.10 Bacteria ResistanceWhen tested in accordance with12.12, the insulation shall be observed as hav

28、ing no growth.7.11 Combustion CharacteristicsWhen tested in accor-dance with 12.13, the material shall have a potential heat valuenot exceeding 3500 Btu/lb (8141 kJ/kg).8. Dimensional Tolerances8.1 After conditioning for a minimum of 24 h at 706 3F(21 6 1.6C) and 50 6 5 % relative humidity, the insu

29、lationshall conform to the dimensional tolerances listed in Table 3.9. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 The insulation units shall indicate good workmanship infabrication and shall not have visible defects which adverselyaffect their service qualities.10. Sampling10.1 The insulation shall be s

Test Methods12.1 Conduct tests for temperature resistance, erosionresistance, surface burning characteristics, and sound absorp-tion on the air stream su

34、rface side.12.2 DimensionsThe thickness shall be measured in ac-cordance with Test Methods C167. Length and width shall bemeasured with a steel tape or ruler to 6116 in. (62 mm).12.3 CorrosivenessThe corrosiveness shall be tested inaccordance with the method for testing the corrosiveness ofmineral f

35、iber batt and blanket insulation in Specification C665using only steel plates12.3.1 Alternative Test Steel OnlyDetermine the massloss corrosion rate in accordance with Practice C1617.12.4 Water Vapor SorptionThe water vapor sorption shallbe determined in accordance with Test Method C1104/C1104M.12.5

36、 Fungi ResistanceThe fungi resistance shall be deter-mined in accordance with Test Method C1338 and PracticeG21.12.6 Temperature ResistanceThe temperature resistanceshall be determined in accordance with Test Method C411,with the air stream surface exposed to 250F (121C). 37、s supplied.12.7 Erosion Resistance TestThe erosion resistance shallbe determined using the erosion test of UL 181.12.7.1 Sample PreparationFor material intended for rect-angular duct, install a sample of 1-in. (25-mm) thick insulationin a 12 by 12-in. (305 by 305-mm) sheet metal duct in anL-shaped a

38、ssembly. For material intended for circular duct,install a sample of 1-in. (25-mm) thick insulation in a 14-in.(356-mm) diameter metal duct in an L-shaped assembly. Thelength of the upstream and downstream legs of the assemblyshall be between 6 and 9 ft (1.8 m and 2.7 m). The 90 bendshall be made wi

39、th an elbow as employed for installation.Because the installation details will affect the test results, theinstallation shall be in accordance with the NAIMA FibrousGlass Duct Liner Standard or SMACNA HVAC Duct Con-struction Standards. Connect the assembly to a fan by means ofa transformation piece

40、to provide for uniform air entry to thetest specimen. The fan must be able to generate the requiredtest velocities.12.8 Odor EmissionThe odor emission shall be deter-mined in accordance with Test Method C1304.12.9 Surface Burning CharacteristicsThe surface burningcharacteristics shall be determined

41、in accordance with TestMethod E84 or UL 723. For Canada, test in accordance withTest Method CAN/ULC-S102. When the referenced Canadiandocument in this specification is referred to in applicableCanadian building codes, the editions, referenced by thosebuilding codes, shall govern. The test specimen p

42、reparationand mounting procedures shall be in accordance with PracticeE223112.10 Apparent Thermal ConductivityThe apparent ther-mal conductivity shall be determined in accordance with TestMethod C177, Test Method C518, or Test Method C1114 at75F (24C) mean temperature and with a minimum tempera-ture

If Test Method C518 is used themanufacturer shall certify that recent calibrations have beenmade.12.11 Sound Absorption CoeffcientsThe sound absorptioncoefficients and noise reduction coefficients shall be deter-mined in accordance with Test Method C423, with a type “A”moun

Rejection and Rehearing14.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthe agreed upon specification shal

49、l be subject to rejection.Rejection should be reported to the manufacturer or supplierpromptly in writing. The manufacturer and supplier shall havethe right to verify rejected products.14.2 Upon the request of the purchaser in the contract ororder the certification of an independent third party indicatingconformance to the requirements of this specification shall beacceptable instead of the manufacturers certification.15.
