Scope*1.1 This specification covers alloy steel castings, whichhave been subjected to special heat treatment, for valves,flanges, fittings, and other pressure-containing parts (Note 1)intended primarily for high-temperature service.1.2 The high-temperature properties of the materials
4、cov-ered in this specification are dependent upon special heattreatment that is required. Although the high-temperatureproperties are not specified, they are implied by control ofchemistry, heat treatment, and room-temperature properties.1.3 Two grades of ferritic alloy steel are covered (Note 2).Se
5、lection will depend on the design and service conditions,mechanical properties, and high-temperature characteristics.NOTE 1Carbon steel castings for pressure-containing parts are cov-ered by Specification A216/A216M. Alloy steel castings are covered bySpecification A217/A217M.NOTE 2The grades covere
6、d by this specification represent materialsthat are generally suitable for assembly with other castings or wroughtsteel parts by fusion welding. It is not intended to imply that these gradespossess equal degrees of weldability; therefore, it is the responsibility ofthe purchaser to establish for him
7、self a suitable welding technique. Sincethese grades possess varying degrees of suitability for resistance tooxidation and for high-temperature service, it is also the responsibility ofthe purchaser to determine which grade shall be furnished, due consider-ation being given to the requirements of th
8、e applicable construction codes.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems ma
9、y result in non-conformancewith the standard.2. 12、castings, material furnishedto this specification shall conform to the requirements ofSpecification A703/A703M, including any supplementary re-quirements that are indicated in the purchase order. Failure tocomply with the general requirements of A703/A703M consti-tutes nonconformance with the specif

In case of conflictbetween the requirements of this specification and A703/A703M, this specification shall prevail.3.2 Steel investment castings furnished to this specificationshall conform to the requirements of Specification A985/1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Commi

Ordering Information4.1 The inquiry and order should include or indicate thefollowing:4.1.1 A description of the casting by pattern number ordrawing (dimensional tolerances shall be included on thecasting drawing),4.1.2 Grade of steel,4.1.3 Options in the specification, and4.1.4 T
19、he supplementary requirements desired including thestandards of acceptance.5. Heat Treatment5.1 All castings shall receive a heat treatment proper to theirdesign and chemical composition. Heat treatment shall beperformed before machining except in instances when reheattreating is necessary. All cast
20、ings shall have been allowed tocool, after pouring, to a temperature below the critical rangebefore heat treatment.5.2 At the option of the manufacturer the castings may begiven any preliminary heat treatment that will aid in theirprocessing.5.3 All castings shall receive a final heat treatment cons
