Scope1.1 This standard covers the inspection requirements agreedupon by the purchaser and producer of steel castings for thesample castings prior to production of the c

3、ompleted order.This standard includes all castings covered by SpecificationsA703/A703M, A781/A781M, A957 and A985/A985M. It alsoidentifies when a new sample needs to be developed.1.2 Several categories of sampling requirements are coveredranging from dimensional, machining, visual, magnetic par-ticl

4、e, liquid penetrant, radiographic, ultrasonic or leak tests.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Documentation4.1 Order documents shall state:4.1.1 Number of castings in the sample.4.1.2 DimensionsCasting dimensions of the

8、samples shallbe recorded.4.1.3 Visual InspectionResults of visual inspection shallbe recorded.4.1.4 Nondestructive ExaminationResults for each of thenondestructive tests specified shall be recorded.4.1.5 Reporting RequirementsReporting requirementsshall be included.4.2 Machined CastingsResults of an

9、y required inspec-tions following machining operations shall be recorded.4.3 Destructive TestsIf specified, the results of any de-structive tests shall be recorded.5. New Sample Considerations5.1 Gating and Risering RevisionsChanges to the riseringand gating practice used to manufacture the casting

10、shall bereviewed for reasons to require a new sample casting.5.2 Molding MaterialsReviews are required for changesin molding materials used to manufacture the casting.5.3 Pattern Drawing ChangesSignificant dimensional re-visions to the pattern drawing shall be reviewed for specifyinga new sample.6.

11、Acceptable Sample6.1 Sample castings shall be deemed acceptable when theresults of the sample requirements have been satisfied.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee A01 on Steel,Stainless Steel and Related Alloys and is the direct responsibility of SubcommitteeA01.18 on Casti
