10、 of American National Standard B151.5-2000.)This standard is a revision of American National Standard for Plastics Machinery -Plastic Film and Sheet Winding Equipment - Construction, Care, and Use, ANSIB151.5-1982.The standard was revised because:1) The scope needed to be expanded and the titles mod

11、ified;2) Additional definitions were required;3) Some paragraphs required modification and some paragraphs were added toconform more closely to change in technology;4) Some paragraphs required modification for clarity and intent.A standard treating the manufacture, care and use of web handling machi

12、nes is com-plicated by the wide variety and sizes of machines manufactured and in use, and bythe virtually infinite combinations of parts being produced, production methods beingused, and operating conditions existing in industry today.The primary objective of this standard is to minimize hazards to

13、 personnel associatedwith machine activity by establishing requirements for the manufacture, care and useof these machines. To accomplish this objective, a decision was made to approachthe problem of machine safety as follows:1) Eliminating by design certain recognized hazards and the establishment

14、ofstandard approaches to design so those machines available from competitivemanufacturers will have similar operational characteristics;2) Safeguarding of the machine where recognized hazards cannot be designedout for technical or operational reasons;3) Warning where elimination or safeguarding of h

15、azards is not technically or op-erationally feasible.To assist the interpretation of these requirements, responsibilities have been as-signed to the manufacturer, re-manufacturer, the modifier, and the employer.Recognizing the impossibility of updating equipment and changing operation meth-ods allie

16、d with existing machines immediately after approval date of this standard, a3-year period has been provided to employers for updating machines.Recognizing the impossibility of immediate updating of design and manufacturingmethods, Sections 4 and 6 shall become effective one year after the approval d

Scope, Purpose, and Application 1.1 Scope The requireme

22、nt of this standard shall apply to all film and sheet winding machinery (Machinery). Safety requirements of ancillary equipment used with the Machinery are not covered by this stan-dard. 1.2 Purpose The purpose of this standard is to identify and ad-dress known hazards to personnel working on, or ad

23、jacent to the Machinery. 1.3 Application 1.3.1 New Installation The requirements of this standard pertaining to manufacture shall apply to all new or remanufac-tured Machinery installed in the United States of America. Compliance shall be achieved within one year of the approval date of this standar

24、d. Date of shipment (month and year) shall be affixed to the Machine permanently and legibly along with the name of the manufacturer or remanufacturer. 1.3.2 Existing Installations The employer is responsible for bringing existing Machines into compliance with the requirements of this standard withi

25、n three years of the approval date of this standard. By the end of the three-year transition period, the 4-inch opening referred to in 5.3.1.1 shall be changed to 3 inches. It is not the intent of this standard to require exist-ing installations to be in total compliance with the latest revision of

26、ANSI/NFPA 79-1997, Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery. Only those re-quirements that address personnel safety require updating. 35、p Device A trip rod, cord, button, or other device that, when actuated, stops all hazardous movement associated with the specific machine. 3.7 Employer Any person who contracts, hires, or is responsible for the personnel associated with the operation and maintenance of the Machine. 3.8 Guard A barri

36、er, cover, enclosure, or other device placed over areas where hazards exist. 3.8.1 Fixed Guard A guard requiring the use of tools for removal from the Machinery. 3.8.2 Movable Guard A guard that may be moved or removed without the use of tools. 3.9 Instructions Documentation for the installation, op

37、eration, care, maintenance, and safe use of the Machine. 3.10 Interlock An arrangement whereby the operation of one con-trol or mechanism brings about or prevents the op-eration of another. 3.11 Lay-on-Roll A driven or nondriven roll that rides on or in close proximity to the outside of the winding

38、roll. 3.12 Local Control A control device located in full view of the compo-nent being controlled. 3.13 Maintenance Personnel Individuals who, by virtue of their training and skill, are qualified to inspect, maintain, and repair the Machinery. 3.14 Manufacturer Any person whose business is the manuf

39、acture of the Machinery covered in this standard for installa-tion in the United States of America. 3.15 Modification For the purpose of this standard, any change to the Machinery that affects personnel safety is consid-ered a modification. E3.8 Guard Other devices may include presence-sensing devic

40、es. E3.8.1 Fixed Guard A fixed guard includes but is not limited to one that is fastened to the framework of the machine or floor. E3.8.2 Movable Guard A movable guard is generally connected by mechanical means to the machine frame or an adjacent fixed ele-ment (i.e., hinges or slides). E3.12 Local

41、Control The operator must be able to see the hazard. ANSI/SPI B151.5-20004 3.16 Modifier Any person who performs a modification to a Ma-chine. 3.17 Nip, Counter Rotating The point between two counter-rotating rolls. 3.18 Nip, Fixed member The point between a fixed member and a driven roll where the

42、distance between the two is 4 inches or less. 3.19 Nip, Web Generated The contact point between a web surface and a ro-tating roll. 3.20 Operator An individual who uses the Machinery to perform production work. 3.21 Pinch Point Any point at which it is possible for a part of the body to be caught be

43、tween a moving part and a fixed part or between two moving parts, except nips. 3.22 Presence-Sensing Device A device that is capable of detecting an intrusion into a specified area. 3.23 Reach Point The farthest point an operator is expected to be able to touch when outside of the machine or on a wa

44、lk-way. Areas that may be reached only by deliberately crawling into the machine or otherwise contorting the body are not considered within the reach point of the operator. 3.24 Remanufacture A substantial restoration of a specific machine. E3.20 Operator Production work includes thread-ups. E3.22 P

45、resence-Sensing Device Examples of presence-sensing devices include: safety mat, interlocked platform, photoelectric beam, or other similar devices. E3.24 Remanufacture Remanufacture typically consists of the following: (1) Substantial dismantling of the Machine; (2) Cleaning and carefully inspectin

46、g all parts; (3) Reworking worn parts to as new condition or replacing with new parts to meet applicable standards and guidelines; (4) Substan-tially reconditioning or replacing power system compo-nents to meet applicable standards and guidelines; (5) Inspecting all electrical and control systems an

47、d replac-ing component/systems as required; (6) Removing modifications that are not in conformance with Sections 5 and 7 of this standard and informing the employer of the removal. ANSI/SPI B151.5-20005 3.25 Remanufacturer Any person whose business is the redesign and/or remanufacture of a specific

48、machine for installation in the United States of America. 3.26 Repair The restoration of a portion of a specific machine to original function using original design by replace-ment or re-working of worn or damaged parts. 3.27 Safety Signs A visual alerting device in the form of a sign, label, decal,

49、placard, or other marking that advises the observer of the nature and degree of the potential hazard(s) that can cause injury or death. 3.28 Shall The word “shall” denotes a mandatory requirement. 3.29 Should The word “should” denotes a recommendation. 3.30 S” Wrap An “S” wrap is formed between two counter-rotating rolls, either touching or not, when the web passes around the first roll, through the space be-tween the two rolls, around the second roll, and continues. This is opposed to the web simply pass-ing through the nip between the two rolls without wrapping either. 3.31 Traver
