SCOPE The material defined by this specification is stranded insulated 00 gage super flexible battery cable. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used as a battery starting

3、 cable on extra heavy duty diesel installations. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 CABLE SIZE Finished cable diameter shall not exc

4、eed 0.725 in (19.05 mm). 3.2 CABLE QUALITY Shall meet all the requirements listed herein and must be equal to the original approved samples. 3.3 CABLE CONSTRUCTION Shall consist of a minimum of 3325 strands (manufacturing tolerance to be additive) of #34 gage round wire. The strands shall be lateral

5、ly served with 0.003 in (0.08 mm) paper tape. Tape must have a 12-1/2% minimum overlap. 3.4 WIRE QUALITY Conductor strands prior to stranding shall consist of bare ESF-M2L1-A, soft or annealed round copper wire. 3.5 INSULATION COLOR Black ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESF-M1L60-A Page 2 of 2 Co

6、pyright 2003, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. 3.6 INSULATION QUALITY Neoprene insulation must meet all basic ASTM D 752 requirements. Insulation shall have 0.112 in (2.84 mm) wall nominal. 3.7 RESISTIVITY Shall not exceed 86 /ft (282 /m) at 20 +/- 1 C. 3.8 PHYSICAL & ELECTRICAL Three samples of cable

7、 are required. One sample is needed for each of the high temperature, low temperature and oil absorption tests. All samples are subjected to the dielectric breakdown test at the completion of their respective tests. These samples are a 24 in (0.6 m) piece of cable with a 1 in (25 mm) of insulation s

8、tripped from both ends. 3.8.1 High Temperature Suspend sample over a 10 in (254 mm) mandrel with a 10 lb (4.54 kg) weight at each end. Soak at 121 +/- 1 C for 120 h in a circulating air oven. Cool to room temperature, remove the weights and bend the sample around the mandrel in a reverse direction a

9、t a rate not exceeding 1 turn per minute until a 180 bend is completed. Insulation should not fracture or split. 3.8.2 Low Temperature Lower the temperature of a straight piece of sample to -40 C at a rate not exceeding 68 C per minute. Soak 3 h and then wrap around an 18 in (457 mm) mandrel at 6 tu

10、rns per minute for 180 . Insulation should not fracture. 3.8.3 Oil Absorption Immerse the sample to within 1-1/2 in (38 mm) of the ends in a solution of 50% kerosene and 50 % SAE 10W engine oil for 20 h at 49 +/- 1 C. Cable diameter should not increase more than 15%. Wrap sample around a 10 in (254

11、mm) mandrel for 180. Insulation should not fracture or split. 3.8.4 Dielectric Breakdown Join exposed ends of sample and immerse loop to within 6 in (150 mm) of ends in a 5% salt bath (salt content by weight at 27 C. Soak 5 hours and then apply 500V (RMS) 60 cps (Hz) between sample conductor and salt bath for 1 minute. Insulation should not rupture.
