This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS7460:1991 BSI 01-2000 1 0 Introduction Any item of equipment used in the room of an infected patient may become contaminated with
13、 the organisms causing the infection. This organism could be transferred to another room or ward by the equipment, but the risk of infecting another patient is small. Nevertheless, the risk to certain patients, e.g.highly immunosuppressed patients, is higher than normal and additional precautions sh
14、ould be taken. In any vacuum pick-up system, the exhausted air may discharge or redistribute small numbers of microbes. If this represents displacement of organisms within a room from one part to another or to another area, without substantially increasing the count or altering its nature, this woul
15、d be acceptable in all but the most sensitive areas. Some organisms are likely to grow in fluids or moist equipment and precautions are necessary to avoid spraying them into the environment. 1 Scope This BritishStandard gives recommendations which are intended to minimize any infection risk associat
16、ed with the use on carpets and soft floor coverings of hot water spray extraction cleaning machines designed to comply with BS5415-2.3. NOTEThe title of the publication referred to in this standard is given on the inside back cover. 2 Areas to be cleaned 2.1 General Areas within a hospital which are
17、 carpeted or covered by soft floor coverings may, for the purposes of being cleaned by hot water spray extraction machines, be divided into three categories. 2.2 Category1 areas Category1 includes carpeted areas in administrative offices, residences, corridors, etc., i.e.any not used for the followi
18、ng: a) treatment or diagnosis of patients; b) preparation, storage or service of food; c) preparation, storage or distribution of clinical or pharmaceutical products; d) storage, distribution or handling of clinical specimens or cadavers. Equipment may be transferred freely from any category1area to
19、 any other category1area and no special restrictions need be placed on the equipment for use in these areas. 2.3 Category2 areas Category2 includes carpeted areas used for the following: a) treatment or diagnosis of patients; b) preparation, storage or service of food. Equipment used in a category2
20、area should be cleaned and decontaminated in accordance with a written procedure (seeAppendix A) as a matter of hospital policy (seeclause4). 2.4 Category3 areas 2.4.1 General Category3 includes carpeted areas at special risk, including areas used for the treatment of patients with suppressed immuni
21、ty, children under3 months old, patients suffering from infections requiring specific isolation measures, or any other area designated as a category3 area by a microbiologist or infection control doctor. NOTEAreas used for such purposes do not normally have a carpet or soft floor covering. 2.4.2 Res
