Scope1.1 This guide provides recommendations for home laun-dering of clothing that is flame, thermal, and arc resista
3、nt.1.1.1 This guide does not apply to dry cleaning of flame,thermal, and arc resistant clothing. For more information ondry cleaning, follow label instructions or contact your garmentsupplier or fabric manufacturer.1.1.2 This guide does not apply to industrial laundering offlame, thermal, and arc re
4、sistant clothing. For more informa-tion on industrial laundering, follow Guide F 1449 or contactyour garment supplier.1.2 When garments are laundered properly, using the properdetergent, home laundering is an effective cleaning process.1.3 It is important that potentially flammable contaminantsare r
5、emoved from garments during the wash process. Ifflammable contaminants are not removed, the flame resistanceof the garment may be compromised.1.3.1 To reduce the potential of employees wearing gar-ments contaminated with flammable substances, the end usershould analyze the soil conditions to which a
6、 worker may beexposed, along with the effectiveness of the wash procedure. Inthe event home laundering is deemed ineffective, alternativesolutions should be pursued (dry cleaning, industrial launder-ing, disposable FR coveralls, etc.).1.4 Certain laundry chemicals that may have an adverseeffect on f
7、abric flame resistance are identified in this guide andshould not be used.1.5 This guide does not apply to specialized protectivegarments such as specialized firefighter turnout gear andproximity firefighter ensembles.1.6 This guide also provides recommendations for inspec-tion criteria that are sig
8、nificant to the performance of flame,thermal, and arc resistant clothing.2. 15、ificance and Use5.1 This guide is intended for use by employees of the enduser, such as safety personnel or program administrators, whohave chosen to implement a home laundered flame, thermal orarc resistant clothing program.5.2 This guide describes the key components involved in thehome care and ma
16、intenance of flame, thermal, and arc resistantclothing. The decision to home launder flame, thermal and arcresistant clothing is part of an overall hazard analysis. It shouldinclude the nature of the hazard, the soils and any chemicalspresent in the workplace. Requirements may exist that requirework
17、 apparel to be cleaned professionally due to the risk ofcontamination of the home or waste water caused by thewearers on the job exposure.5.3 The guide provides the end user assistance to developlaundering methods that will clean the garment and maintainthe flame, thermal, and arc resistant characte
18、ristics of theclothing during its useful service life. The guide also providessuggestions for increasing the wear life, appearance andfunction of the clothing.5.4 The guide also provides suggestions as to when flame,thermal, and arc resistant garments should be removed fromservice.6. Procedure6.1 Ga
19、rment manufacturers, in consultation with fiber andfabric suppliers, are responsible for providing information onthe performance characteristics and maintenance needs of theirgarments. The end-user is responsible for understanding thehazards present in the workplace and selecting appropriateengineer
20、ing controls and protective equipment and garments toaddress those hazards and communicating home launderinginstructions to the wearer.6.1.1 If questions remain about care and maintenance offlame, thermal and arc resistant clothing, contact the garmentmanufacturer or garment supplier for specific ca
21、re instructionsfor the fabrics or garments.6.2 Below are recommendations to provide optimal care andmaintenance of flame, thermal, and arc resistant properties.6.2.1 Always follow the care label.6.2.2 Use household laundry detergents. Do not use fatty-based or bar soaps. Liquid detergents are recomm
