3、ylene fit-tings for use with outside diameter-controlled polyethylenepipe, covered by Specifications D2513, D2737, D3035, andF714 and crosslinked polyethylene (PEX), covered by Speci-fications F876 and F2788/F2788M. Requirements formaterials, workmanship, and testing performance are included.All req
4、uirements for joining PE electrofusion fittings to PEpipe shall also apply to joining PE electrofusion fittings to PEXpipe. 16、erminology3.1 DefinitionsDefinitions are in accordance with Termi-nology F412, and abbreviations are in accordance with Termi-nology D1600, unless otherwise specified.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 electrofusiona heat fusion joining process where theheat source is an integr
17、al part of the fitting, such that whenelectric current is applied, heat is produced that melts and joinsthe plastics.3.2.2 fusion interfacesurface in the heat fusion processwhere the plastic materials of the products being joined bondtogether.3.2.3 fusion zone lengthtotal length of the melted materi
18、alin the fitting cross-section under evaluation.4. Materials and Manufacture4.1 This specification covers fittings made from polyethyl-ene compounds as defined in Specification D3350.4.1.1 Polyethylene material compounds suitable for use inthe manufacture of electrofusion fittings under this specifi
19、ca-tion shall meet Specification D3350 and shall meet Specifica-tion D3350 classification and property requirements shown inTable 1 and shall have PPI TR-4 HDB and HDS listings at73F (23C) and HDB listings at 140F (60C).4.2 Rework MaterialClean rework polyethylene materialof the same resin, free of
20、any wire or contaminants generatedfrom the fitting manufacturers own production, may be usedby the same manufacturer, as long as the fittings producedconform to the requirements of this specification.4.3 Heating MechanismThe heat mechanism shall be ofmaterials and design not detrimental to the perfo
21、rmance of thefitting or the pipe to which it is intended to be joined. Heatingmechanisms, such as wires or materials other thanpolyethylene, shall not exit the fitting in an area exposed tointernal pressure. Heat mechanisms shall be of a design thatensures that wire terminations are toward the outer
22、 edges of thefusion zone length and away from the pressure containing area.Examples of acceptable and unacceptable wire terminations areshown in Figs. 1-5.4.4 Removal of exterior layersFor PEX pipes containingan exterior non-PEX layer, such layers shall be completelyremoved according to the manufact
23、urers instructions prior tomaking the electrofusion joint. The dimensions of the PEXpipe after removal of non-PEX exterior layer/s shall meet therequirements of the relevant tubing or pipe Specifications F876or F2788/F2788M.4.5 PEX pipe utilizing a mid-wall non-PEX layer areoutside the scope of this
24、 standard and therefore shall not beused to qualify fittings to this standard.5. Performance Requirements5.1 The following requirements are for electrofusion jointsthat have been joined using the manufacturers recommendedjoining procedures. These requirements must be met by eachelectrofusion joint d
