3、ing material to seal arounda fastener that penetrates the material and prevent transmissionof liquid water through the material at the penetration underdefined conditions.1.2 This test method is provided for adoption by ASTM orother consensus-based roofing and waterproofing productspecifications as
4、a standardized means to evaluate capability toseal around a fastener. Performance of this test method aftersubjecting the product to conditioning intended to simulateenvironmental stresses and strains is not prohibited.1.3 The text of this test method references notes andfootnotes which provide expl
5、anatory material. These notes andfootnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shall not beconsidered as requirements of the standard.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard. Summary of Test Method4.1 The capability of asphalt-based roofing or waterproofingmaterials to seal around a
9、penetrating fastener and prevent thepassage of liquid water at the fastener/material interface isdetermined by penetrating the material with a fastener, erectinga water column over that penetration, and monitoring theassembly for water passage for a period of time.4.2 The test method includes protoc
10、ols that establish levelsfor the test method parameters. The protocol used to evaluatea material is designated in a standard specification for thematerial or by the user of this test method.5. Significance and Use5.1 In some situations, penetration through asphalt-basedroofing or waterproofing mater
11、ials by fasteners is a requiredpart of the material installation process or occurs duringinstallation of other system components. When fasteners pen-etrate the material as a purposeful and planned part of theconstruction process, it is reasonable to expect that materialsdesigned to limit migration o
12、f liquid water at the interfacebetween the penetrating fastener and the material will do so.This qualitative test method provides a means to evaluate theability of a material to limit water migration at fastenerpenetrations when tested under defined conditions.6. Apparatus6.1 Specimen RollerA roller
13、 having a mass of 11.8 kg (26lb) 60.5 %, diameter of 125 mm (5 in.) 65 %, and width of125 mm (5 in.) 65%.1This test method is under the jurisdiction ofASTM Committee D08 on Roofingand Waterproofing and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee D08.02 onPrepared Roofings, Shingles and Siding Mater

18、From each lot of roofing or waterproofing material,select sample rolls in accordance with Test Methods D 5147.7.2 The rolls so selected shall constitute the representativesample used for all tests pertaining to the lot of material beingexamined.8. Test Specimens8.1 Each test specimen shall consist o
19、f one piece of roofingor waterproofing material, 255 by 255 mm (10 by 10 in.) 65% in size, selected at random from a sample roll.8.2 At least one test specimen shall be selected from eachsample roll.8.3 Condition test specimens at 23 6 2C (73.4 6 3.6F)and 50 6 10 % relative humidity for at least fou
