Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 Many of the terms utilized in this practice are definedin Terminology D 907.4. Significance and Use4.1 This practice will provide a procedure for determiningthe stabilit

6、y of an adhesive to withstand five repeated cycles, oras otherwise specified, of freezing and thawing at a specifictemperature.4.2 This practice will allow the user to determine whether ornot the adhesive can be appropriately applied after cycling offreezing and thawing.4.3 This practice will identi

7、fy any significant changes in themanufactured viscosity of the product after five cycles, or asotherwise specified, of freezing and thawing at a specifictemperature.4.4 This practice will help determine if the pH of adhesivehas changed significantly due to the freezing and thawingcycles.5. Apparatus

8、5.1 A .9081 L (1 qt) container, or larger, with lid. Othercontainer sizes may be applicable for some adhesives.5.2 Freezer capable of maintaining -17.7C 6-2 (0.0 F6-5) to -6.6C 6-2 (20 F 6-5).5.3 Brookfield RVT Viscometer 1-spindle TC at520rpmsHeliopath stand.NOTE 1Other viscometer models, their spe

9、ed and spindle size, maybe utilized as long as they comply to Test Methods D 1084 or D 2556 andare recommended by the manufacturer for such use.5.4 pH meter.5.5 Tongue depressor or similar.6. Conditioning6.1 Condition the adhesive to be tested 24 h at 23 C 6-2(73.4 6-4 F) with a relative humidity if

10、 50 6 -5 % prior totesting.7. Procedure7.1 Fill the container with adhesive to be tested.7.2 Check the viscosity of the adhesive after it is transferredinto the container, as defined in Test Methods D 1084 (MethodB) or Test Method D 2556.7.3 Check the pH of the adhesive after it is transferred intot

11、he container, as defined in Test Method D 1293.7.4 Close the container with lid and place it into the freezerat the specified temperature to be tested for a period of not lessthan 16 h.7.5 Remove container from freezer after the appropriatetime limit and allow to thaw until the adhesive reaches room

12、temperature as defined in 6.1. It is recommended that aconstant temperature oven with a temperature set at 23.9 C6-2 (75 F 6-4) be used for the thawing procedure. 15、ntents.7.6 Insert clean tongue depressor about one inch into theadhesive and remove slowly.7.7 If the adhesive “strings” from the tongue depressor orappears gelled, the sample has failed the test. Report whichparticular cycle displayed a change in the physical properties orthat had failed.7.8 If adh

16、esive appears to be of normal consistency, mea-sure viscosity and pH and record.7.9 Repeat steps 7.3-7.8 for a total of five cycles or until achange in physical properties or failure is noted.8. Reporting8.1 Report the following information:8.1.1 Type of adhesive.8.1.2 Temperature at which product w

17、as frozen and tested.8.1.3 Initial viscosity and pH of adhesive.8.1.4 Viscosity and pH of the individual freeze thaw cyclesor if applicable after which cycle product was no longerclassified as usable.9. Precision and Bias9.1 The precision and bias of this practice for measuringviscosity is essential

18、ly as specified in Test Method D 1084.Other results produced from this practice are non-quantitative.10.
