Scope Scope*1.1 This

3、 specification covers an 85 % platinum15 % iridium alloy, and a 90 % platinum10 % iridium alloy, in the form ofrod, wire, strip, and sheet material for electrical contacts.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values given inparen

4、theses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered stated in eachsystem may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from thetwo systems may result in non-conformance with th

5、e standard.1.3 The original specification, B684 - 81, covered the 85 % platinum 15 % iridium alloy. The 1997 revision of this specificationadded the 90 % platinum 10 % iridium alloy.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Mechanical Property Requirements8.1 The contract or purchase order may specify ultimate tensile strength, elongation, microhardness (Knoop or Vickers),hardness (Rockwell or Rockwell Superficial), or a combination of these mechanical properties as temper criterion. If the contractor ord

24、er does not specify a temper criterion, then the criterion for temper designation will be ultimate tensile strength.8.2 The mechanical properties shall conform to those properties listed in Table 2 and Table 3. The term “work hardened,” asused in these tables, refers to material which has been subje

25、cted to a minimum of 30 % reduction in crosssectional area.8.3 All test specimens shall be full size when practical.8.4 All tests are to be conducted at room temperature, 65 to 85F (1818 to 29C).29C.9. Test Methods9.1 Test methods shall be in accordance with Specification B476.9.1.1 Knoop hardness t

26、ests shall be in accordance with Test Method E384. Material 0.005 in. (0.13 mm)0.13 mm in thickness(diameter) and larger shall be tested using a 100-g indenter load. Material less than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm)0.13 mm in thickness(diameter) shall be tested using a 50-g indenter load. A minimum of five har

27、dness indentations shall be made on each specimen.All indentations shall be made so that the long axis of the indenter is parallel to the rolling or drawing direction of the material.The hardness value reported shall be the average of the five indentations.9.1.2 All tension test specimens shall be f

28、ull cross-section size when practical (see Test Methods E8E8/E8M).9.1.3 All tests shall be conducted in room temperature, 65 to 85F (18.318.3 to 29.4C).29.4C.9.2 Chemical analysis shall be performed by spectrochemical or wet analysis methods.10.
