8、 operated electroniccigarettes, also known as e-Cigarettes, and their battery charging systems.1.2 These requirements do not cover the consumable of the electronic cigarette, such as e-Liquids andother inhaled vapor substances, wicks, and other particulate matter inhaled during use.1.3 These require

9、ments do not consider the physiological effects of any consumable used with theproduct.2 Components2.1 A component that is also intended to perform other functions, shall comply additionally with therequirements of the applicable Standard(s) that cover devices that provide those functions.2.2 A comp

10、onent shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.2.3 A component of a product covered by this Outline is not required to comply with a specificrequirement that:a) Is superseded by a requirement in this Outline; orb) Is separately investigated when formi

11、ng part of another component, provided the componentis used within its established rating and limitations.2.4 Components not anticipated by the requirements of this Outline, not specifically covered by acomponent standard per 2.3, and which pose a potential risk of electric shock, fire or casualty h

14、einterpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.5 Glossary5.1 For the purpose of this Outline the following definitions apply5.2 ATOMIZER A heating device that turns a liquid consumable into vapor.5.3 BATTERY CASING The container that directly encloses and confines the elect

15、rolyte and electrodesof a battery cell.5.4 BATTERY CELL The basic functional electrochemical unit containing an electrode assembly,electrolyte, separators, container, and terminals. It is a source of electrical energy by direct conversion ofchemical energy.5.5 BATTERY COMPARTMENT A cavity or recess

16、intended for battery pack insertion for electricalcontact for charging and/or use.5.6 BATTERY PACK Battery cells contained in a protective enclosure or covering. A battery pack mayalso incorporate protective devices, battery pack management controls, charging circuits, and monitoringcircuitry. A bat

17、tery pack may be removable by the user for charging separately from the electroniccigarette. A battery pack as referenced in these requirements is considered a battery.5.7 BATTERY SYSTEM A combination of a battery pack, battery charger, charging interface (ifprovided), and monitoring and protection

18、circuits intended for use with an atomizer.5.8 CHARGING INTERFACE An assembly used to hold a removable battery pack for connection to acharging system. The battery pack is removed from the battery interface before inserting into the batterycompartment of the electronic cigarette.5.9 CONSUMABLE A sub

19、stance such as glycol or a similarly based liquid, wicks, and other particulatematter, that is vaporized by an atomizer and inhaled by the user.5.10 ELECTROLYTE LEAKAGE A condition where liquid electrolyte escapes through an opening in adesigned vent as well as through a rupture or crack or other un

20、intended opening in the battery casing orenclosure of a battery cell or capacitor and is visible external to the battery pack.5.11 ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE An inhalant device with its battery pack installed used to vaporize aconsumable, with all detachable charging systems removed.5.12 ENCLOSURE The out

21、er cover of device that provides protection to its contents. 22、OF DISCHARGE VOLTAGE The voltage, under load, of the battery cell or battery pack atthe end of discharge. This value may be specified by the battery cell manufacturer, as in the case of avoltage terminated discharge, or simply measured in the case of a time-controlled discharge.5.14 FIRE The sustain

23、ed combustion of the battery pack contents as evidenced by flame, heat andcharring or other damage of materials.5.15 FULLY CHARGED A battery pack that has been charged per the battery cell manufacturersspecifications to its full state of charge.5.16 FULLY DISCHARGED A battery pack that has been disc

24、harged according to the battery cellmanufacturers specifications until the electronic cigarette is no longer operable.5.17 NORMAL OPERATING REGION That region of voltage, current and temperature within which abattery cell can be appropriately charged and discharged repetitively throughout its antici

25、pated life. SeeFigure 5.1. These values are then used in the evaluation of the device and may vary as the device ages.The normal operating regions will include the following parameters for charging and discharging:a) CHARGING TEMPERATURE LIMITS The upper and lower limits of temperature,specified by

26、the battery cell manufacturer for charging of the battery cell.b) DISCHARGE TEMPERATURE LIMITS The upper and lower limits of temperature,specified by the battery cell manufacturer for discharging the battery cell.c) END OF DISCHARGE VOLTAGE See 5.13.d) MAXIMUM DISCHARGING CURRENT The maximum dischar

27、ging current rate, which isspecified by the battery cell manufacturer.e) MAXIMUM CHARGING CURRENT The maximum charging current in the normal operatingregion, which is specified by the battery cell manufacturer. This value may vary withtemperature.f) UPPER LIMIT CHARGING VOLTAGE The highest charging

29、unintended mechanical failure of a battery, other than venting, from either internalor external causes, that results in spillage and/or exposure of internal contents from a battery casingincluding explosion.5.19 VENTING When the battery or cell electrolyte is emitted as a liquid, droplets, or vapor

30、from adesigned vent or through a seal intended to preclude rupture.CONSTRUCTION6 Enclosures6.1 The enclosure of an electronic cigarette or charger interface shall have the strength and rigidityrequired to resist the possible physical abuses that it will be exposed to during its intended use, in orde

31、rto reduce the risk of fire, rupture, or injury to persons.6.2 A non-metallic material serving as an enclosure of an electronic cigarette or charger interface shallcomply with the Standard for Polymeric Materials Use in Electrical Equipment Evaluations, UL 746C,and shall have:a) Flammability with a

32、minimum rating of V-2 or comply with the test, Flammability 20 mm(3/4-Inch) Flame, in UL 746C;b) Relative Thermal Index (RTI) suitable for the application;c) Resistance to Moisture Ingress with a minimum IP rating of IPX4, see the Water ExposureTest, Section 27;Figure 5.1Diagram representing an exam

37、e Standardfor Enclosures for Electrical Equipment, Environmental Considerations, UL 50E.7.2 Conductive parts in contact at terminals and connections shall not be subject to corrosion due toelectrochemical action.8 Current Carrying Parts8.1 An external terminal of an electronic cigarette, charger, ch

38、arger interface, or other accessory shall bedesigned to prevent inadvertent shorting, reverse polarity, and misalignment.8.2 Internal wiring shall be routed, supported, clamped or secured in a manner that reduces the likelihoodof excessive strain on wire and on terminal connections; loosening of ter

39、minal connections; and damageof conductor insulation. For soldered terminations, the conductor shall be positioned or fixed so thatreliance is not placed upon the soldering alone to maintain the conductor in position.8.3 A hole by which insulated wires pass through a metal wall shall be provided wit

42、eo, Information and Communication Technology Equipment Part 1: Safety Requirements, UL 62368-1.10 Vehicular Battery Adapters10.1 A vehicular battery adapter provided as an accessory to a battery charger supply shall comply withthe Standard for Vehicle Battery Adapters, UL 2089. The vehicular battery

43、 adapter shall be suitable forthe maximum charging voltage and current under normal operation.10.2 Cable assemblies or wiring with lengths external to the unit not exceeding 3.05 m (10 ft), coiled oruncoiled, shall be constructed of materials rated VW-1 or FT-1 or better with no additional requireme

44、nts.11 Universal Serial Bus (USB)11.1 A USB connector assembly provided as an accessory to a battery charger shall comply with theStandard for Component Connectors for Use in Data, Signal, Control and Power Applications, UL 1977.The USB connector shall be suitable for the maximum charging voltage an

45、d current under normaloperation.11.2 The charging system intended to be connected to a USB power source(s) shall be considered aspowered by:a) A Limited Power Source (LPS) as described in the Standard for Information TechnologyEquipment Safety Part 1: General Requirements, UL 60950-1; orb) A Class 2
