Scope1.1 This specifi cation covers a complete chlorinated rubber painting system for structural steel.1.

2、2 This system is suitable for use on parts or structures exposed in Environmental Zones 2A (frequently wet by fresh water) and 2C (fresh water immersion). It may also be used in nonsolvent chemical atmospheres.1.3 The fi nish paint allows for a choice of colors.2. Description2.1 This painting system

3、 consists of surface preparation by near-white blast cleaning or pickling, one coat of chlorinated rubber primer, one chlorinated rubber intermediate coat, and one chlorinated rubber fi nish coat.3. Referenced Standards3.1 The latest issue, revision, or amendment of the referenced standards in effec

4、t on the date of invitation to bid shall govern, unless otherwise specifi ed.3.2 If there is a confl ict between the requirements of any of the cited referenced standards and this specifi cation, the requirements of this specifi cation shall prevail.3.3 SSPC STANDARDS AND JOINT STANDARDS:PA 1 Shop,

Surface Preparation4.1 SSPC SP 10,

7、 “Near-White Blast Cleaning,” or SSPC-SP 8, “Pickling.” If specifi ed in the procurement documents, a better degree of blast cleaning shall be substituted (SSPC-SP 5).5. Paints5.1 PRIMER: SSPC-Paint 17, “Chlorinated Rubber Inhibitive Primer.”5.2 INTERMEDIATE COAT: SSPC-Paint 18, “Chlorinated Rubber

8、Intermediate Coat Paint.”5.3 FINISH COAT: SSPC-Paint 19, “Chlorinated Rubber Topcoat Paint.”5.4 ADDITIONAL FINISH COAT: When specifi ed in the procurement documents an additional fi nish coat of SSPC-Paint 19, “Chlorinated Rubber Topcoat Paint,” shall be applied.6. Paint Application6.1 PAINT APPLICA

9、TION: Follow the requirements of SSPC-PA 1, “Shop, Field, and Maintenance Painting of Steel.”6.2 FIELD TOUCH-UP PAINTING: In accordance with specifi cation SSPC-PA 1, “Shop, Field, and Maintenance Painting of Steel,” and in particular with section thereof entitled “Field Painting.”6.3 MAINTENANCE PA

10、INTING: For maintenance painting procedures, see SSPC-PA Guide 4, “Guide to Maintenance Repainting with Oil Base or Alkyd Painting Systems.”6.4 NUMBER OF COATS: Three. Four when an additional fi nish coat is specifi ed.6.5 DRY FILM THICKNESS OF PAINT SYSTEM: Not less than the following as measured i

11、n accordance with 5-78SSPC-PS 15.02March 1, 1985Editorial Revisions November 1, 2004SSPC-PA 2, “Measurement of Dry Coating Thickness with Magnetic Gages”: primer 38 micrometers (1.5 mils); intermedi-ate 75 micrometers (3.0 mils); fi nish coat 38 micrometers (1.5 mils); for a three-coat system 150 mi

12、crometers (6.0 mils); if specifi ed, additional fi nish coat 38 micrometers (1.5 mils); for a four-coat system 190 micrometers (7.5 mils).7. Inspection7.1 All work and materials supplied under this specifi ca-tion are subject to timely inspection by the purchaser or his authorized representative. Th

13、e contractor shall correct such work or replace such material as is found defective under this specifi cation (See Note 9.1.). In case of dispute, unless otherwise specifi ed, the arbitration or settlement procedure established in the procurement documents shall be followed. If no arbitration or set

14、tlement procedure is established, then a procedure mutually agreeable to purchaser, material supplier, and contractor shall be used. 7.2 Samples of paints under this painting system may be requested by the purchaser and shall be supplied upon request along with the manufacturers name and identifi ca

15、tion for the materials. Samples may be requested at the time the purchase order is placed, or may be taken from unopened containers at the job site.7.3 Unless otherwise specifi ed, the sampling shall be in accordance with ASTM D 3925.8.
