Scope1.1 This specification covers uninsulated silver-coated softor annealed copper and copper alloy s
3、tranded conductors foruse in electronic space application.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalu

Ordering Information3.1 Orders for material under this specification shall includethe following information:3.1.1 Quantity of each size.3.1.2 Customer s
9、pecification requirements including con-ductor size, designation, and construction.3.1.3 Whether silver-coated copper or silver-coated copper-alloy.3.1.4 Package size (Section 12).3.1.5 Special package marking if required (Section 11), and3.1.6 Place of inspection (Section 10).4. Coating of Wires4.1
10、 Coating ThicknessThe silver coating of wires com-posing stranded conductors shall be uniform such that no areaaround the strand circumference is covered by less than 80micro-inches of silver. Uniform silver coating shall be verifiedby micro-sectioning as outlined in section 9.1.4.1.1 Single points
11、caused by eccentric strands or minutescratches shall not be less than 60 micro-inches minimum orexceed 3 points in number around the micro-sectioned strandcircumference.4.2 The silver coating of wires composing stranded conduc-tors (before and after stranding) shall conform to the polysul-fide test
12、in accordance with Specification B 298.4.3 The average silver coating thickness of wires composingstranded conductors shall be verified by electronic determina-tion (Method A) in accordance with Specification B 298.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee B01 onElectrical Conduc

15、x C700, West Conshohocken, PA 19428-2959, United States.4.4 Red Plague Corrosion TestRepresentative samples ofthe silver coated conductors shall conform to codes03oftheaccelerated corrosion test for un-insulated silver-plated con-ductors as outlined in section 9.2 (Explanatory Note 1).5. General Req
16、uirements5.1 TemperUnless otherwise specified, all coated conduc-tors shall be furnished in the annealed temper.5.2 ElongationThe elongation of stranded conductorsshall be permitted to vary from the requirements of theapplicable Specifications B 298 and B 624 by the followingamounts:5.2.1 For strand
17、ed silver coated copper conductors 22AWGand smaller, the test shall be performed on the whole conductorand the elongation measured when the first strand of theconductor breaks. The minimum average elongation shall notbe less than 10 % with no individual specimen less than 5 %.5.2.2 For stranded silv
18、er coated copper conductors largerthan 22 AWG, strands shall be carefully removed from theconductor and tested for elongation. The minimum averageelongation shall not be less than 10 % with no individual strandless than 5 %.5.2.3 For stranded silver coated copper alloy conductors, thetest shall be p
19、erformed on the whole conductor only and theelongation measured when the first strand of the conductorbreaks. The minimum elongation shall not be less than 6 %.6. Lay of Stranded Conductors6.1 The direction of lay of the outside layer of strandedconductors shall be left-hand.6.2 The direction of lay
20、 of the other layers shall be reversedin successive layers, unless otherwise agreed upon between themanufacturer and the purchaser.6.3 The length of lay of the individual wires composing theoutside layer of the stranded conductor shall not be less than 8nor more than 16 times the outside diameter of
21、 that layer.7. Joints7.1 No joints shall be made at the final draw prior tostranding. No joints shall be made in the individual strands orin the completed conductor during the stranding process.Necessary joints made in the wire and rods prior to finaldrawing shall be in accordance with the best work
22、manshippractice.8. Physical and Electrical Test8.1 Tests to determine conformance of the coating to therequirements prescribed in Section 4 shall be performed beforeinsulating.8.2 Tests to determine conformance to the elongation re-quirements prescribed in section 5.2 shall be made beforeinsulating.
23、8.3 Tests to determine conformance to electrical resistancerequirements prescribed in 3.1.2 shall be made on the uninsu-lated conductor in accordance with Test Method B 193.9. Test Methods9.1 Micro-Sectioning of Strands:9.1.1 The silver coating shall be evaluated for uniformcoating requirements usin
24、g the following procedure for micro-sectioning of strands. Section 9.1 shall be performed accordingto best commercial metallographic practice. Guide E3wouldprovide a good background reference for metallographic ex-amination and preparation of samples.9.1.2 The test specimen shall consist of untwiste
