1、 A-A-52450B June 12, 2009 SUPERSEDING A-A-52450A February 13, 2003 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION VERMICULITE, ABSORBENT (FOR PACKAGING LIQUID HAZARDOUS MATERIALS) The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This Com

2、mercial Item Description (CID) covers expanded or exfoliated vermiculite to be used for the absorbent packaging of liquid hazardous materials (HAZMAT). 2. CLASSIFICATION. The vermiculite shall conform to the density and grading of ASTM C 516, Standard Specification for Insulation, Thermal, Loose Fil

3、l, Vermiculite. 2.1 Type. Type I - Vermiculite loose fill insulation 2.2 Grade. Grade 3 - Fine 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 3.1 Characteristics. The vermiculite shall be dry, nonwetted, untreated, nonabrasive, and free from any additives or surfactants. FSC 8135 NOT MEASUREMENT SENSITIVE Beneficial co

Expanded or exfoliated vermiculite shall be clean and free from extraneous particles per the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration

6、 (OSHA) regulations. 3.3 Metric products. Although the metric system of measurement is the preferred system of weights and measure in CIDs, products manufactured to inch/pound units will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using metric dimensions, provided they fall within specif

7、ied tolerances using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of FED-STD-376, Preferred Metric Units for General Use by the Federal Government, and all other requirements of this CID are met. 4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). A MSDS shall be provided per Tit

8、le 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations, section 1910.1200 (Hazard Communication). 4.2 Recovered material. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 5. PRODUCT C

9、ONFORMANCE PROVISIONS 5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this Commercial Item Description, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commerci

10、al marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 5.2 Inspection requirements. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch/pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to

11、determine if the product is acceptable. 5.2.1 The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product. 6. PACKAGING. The packaging and packing shall be in accordance with retail or consumer packaging, per ASTM D 3951, Standard Practice for Commercial Packaging, shall assure acce

12、ptance by common carrier, and shall provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification or Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in th
