17、al In keeping with ANSI Z49.1, Safety in Welding, Cutting and Allied Processes, the label shown in Figure 1 or the equivalent should, as a minimum, be placed on stock containers of materials such as wires, fluxes, and electrodes and on major equipment such as power sources, wire feeders, and control

18、s used in arc welding, arc cutting, and allied processes. The information should be readily visible and may be on a label, nameplate, or other printed form. In keeping with ANSI Z49.1, Safety in Welding, Cutting and Allied Processes, where noise has been determined to be a hazard, the statement of h

19、azard and consequence, “LOUD NOISE can damage hearing,” should be added to Figure 1. Additional precautionary measures may be added as needed. First aid information is an optional item. It is recommended only for products that present immediate and major health hazards, and for which meaningful firs

20、t aid information can be conveyed in a few words. Using the format of Figure 1, any first aid information should follow the last precautionary measure. The manufacturers name and address should appear on the precautionary label unless it is readily visible elsewhere on the product. A label identific

21、ation number should appear on the label. WARNING: ELECTRIC SHOCK can kill. FUMES AND GASES can be hazardous to your health. SPARKS AND SPATTER can cause fire or explosion. ARC RAYS can injure eyes and burn skin. Do not touch live electrical parts. Always wear dry insulating gloves. Insulate yourself

22、 from work and ground. Disconnect input power before servicing unit. Keep your head out of the fumes. Use enough ventilation, exhaust at the arc, or both, to keep fumes and gases from your breathing zone and the general area. Do not use near flammable material. Do not use on closed containers. Wear

26、e precautionary labeling information shown in Figure 1, the information shown in Figure 2, or its equivalent, should, as a minimum, appear on engine-driven arc welding and cutting power sources. When appearing on a separate label, the appropriate signal word shall be used. ENGINE FUEL can cause fire

27、 or explosion. Stop engine before fueling. Do not smoke when fueling. Avoid sparks and open flame when fueling. Do not overfill tank. Clean up spilled fuel before starting engine. ENGINE EXHAUST can kill. Do not breathe engine exhaust. Use in open, well ventilated areas or vent engine exhaust to the

28、 outside.MOVING PARTS can cause serious injury. Keep away from moving parts. Do not operate with protective covers, panels, or guards removed. Stop engine before servicing.Figure 2 Additional label content for engine-driven equipment Where noise has been determined to be a hazard, the statement of h

29、azard and consequence, “LOUD NOISE can damage hearing. Wear ear protection.” should be added to Figure 2. When carbon monoxide is addressed, the text shown in Figure 9 should be added to Figure 2 or included as a separate label. The wording “Use in open, well ventilated areas or vent the engine exha

30、ust to the outside“ in Figure 2 may be replaced with the alternate wording “Use unit outside or vent exhaust outside. Do not use in enclosed areas.“ 5.3 Electrically supplied equipment In addition to the precautionary label information shown in Figure 1, the information shown in Figure 3 should, as

31、a minimum, appear on electrically supplied arc welding and cutting power sources. When appearing on a separate label, the appropriate signal word shall be used along with the hazard statement “ELECTRIC SHOCK can kill.“ Install and ground machine according to all national and local codes and manufact

32、urers instruction manual. 33、side machine. 5.4 Equipment used in process variations with additional hazards If equipment is being used in a process variation, such as plasma arc cutting, that presents additional hazards and/or avoidance measures, manufacturers shall provide a precautionary EW 6-2006 13 2006, NEMA label with app

34、ropriate safety information in addition to that shown in Figure 1. When this additional information appears on a separate label, the appropriate signal word shall be used. Figure 4 shows an example of additional label content for plasma arc cutting equipment. CUTTING SPARKS can cause fire or explosi

35、on. Provide protection from flying sparks. Watch for fire; keep extinguisher nearby. Do not locate unit over combustible surfaces. PLASMA ARC can cause injury. Keep away from torch tip. Do not grip material near cutting path. Turn off power before disassembling torch. Use torch(es) specified in oper

37、 in Welding, Cutting and Allied Processes, the labels shown in Figures 5, 6, 7 and 10 or the equivalent should, as a minimum and as appropriate, be placed on stock containers of materials such as wires, fluxes, and electrodes and on major equipment such as power sources, wire feeders, and controls u

38、sed in arc welding, arc cutting, and allied processes. The information should be readily visible and may be on a label, nameplate, or other printed form. Additional statements of hazard, consequences, and precautionary measures may be added as needed to the labels shown in Figures 5, 6, 7 and 10. Fi

39、rst aid information is an optional item. It is recommended only for products that present immediate and major health hazards, and for which meaningful first aid information can be conveyed in a few symbols and words. Using the format of Figures 5, 6, 7 and 10, any first aid information shall follow

40、the last precautionary measure and be clearly separated from the precautionary information as are the recommended documents to obtain and read, such as ANSI Z49.1. The manufacturers name and address shall appear on the label unless it is readily visible elsewhere on the product. A label identificati

41、on number shall appear on the label. Minimum letter height in the text areas of the labels shall conform to the requirements found in ANSI Z535.4. Minimum symbol height shall conform to the requirements found in clause 6 and ANSI Z535.3. Figures 5, 6, 7 and 10 show examples of layouts for precaution

42、ary labels using various symbols in combination with text statements. Table 1 provides the different types of graphic symbols that may be used to identify the specific hazard. EW 6-2006 14 2006, NEMA Horizontal formats are used for these examples since they are most common, but vertical presentation

43、s of the same symbols and text may be used as an equivalent means to present the precautionary information. NOTE For symbols requiring a dot pattern, such as fumes, the use of a 45% gray shade is recommended. For alternative layouts to text and symbols labels, see the latest edition of ANSI Z535.4.

44、This ANSI standard shows many acceptable ways to combine text and symbols. In the welding and cutting industries multiple hazard labels are very common and are often used as the major general precautionary labels on major equipment and consumable containers. This publication chose to present the lay
