2、itions specified in 49 CFR 571.214 for a moving deformable barrier test. (c) The data elements required by 563.7, except for the Engine throttle, percent full, engine RPM, and service brake, on/off, must be re-corded in the format specified by 563.8, exist at the completion of the crash test, and be

3、 retrievable by the methodology specified by the vehicle manufacturer under 563.12 for not less than 10 days after the test, and the complete data recorded element must read yes after the test. 563.11 Information in owners man-ual. (a) The owners manual in each vehi-cle covered under this regulation

4、 must provide the following statement in English: This vehicle is equipped with an event data recorder (EDR). The main purpose of an EDR is to record, in certain crash or near crash- like situations, such as an air bag deploy-ment or hitting a road obstacle, data that will assist in understanding ho

5、w a vehicles systems performed. The EDR is designed to record data related to vehicle dynamics and safety systems for a short period of time, typically 30 seconds or less. The EDR in this vehicle is designed to record such data as: How various systems in your vehicle were operating; Whether or not t

6、he driver and passenger safety belts were buckled/fastened; How far (if at all) the driver was depress-ing the accelerator and/or brake pedal; and, How fast the vehicle was traveling. These data can help provide a better under-standing of the circumstances in which crashes and injuries occur. NOTE:

7、EDR data are recorded by your vehicle only if a non- trivial crash situation occurs; no data are re-corded by the EDR under normal driving conditions and no personal data (e.g., name, gender, age, and crash location) are recorded. However, other parties, such as law enforce-ment, could combine the E

8、DR data with the type of personally identifying data routinely acquired during a crash investigation. To read data recorded by an EDR, special equipment is required, and access to the ve-hicle or the EDR is needed. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer, other parties, such as law enforcement, that

9、 have the special equipment, can read the information if they have access to the vehicle or the EDR. (b) The owners manual may include additional information about the form, function, and capabilities of the EDR, in supplement to the required state-ment in 563.11(a). 563.12 Data retrieval tools. Eac

10、h manufacturer of a motor vehi-cle equipped with an EDR shall ensure by licensing agreement or other means that a tool(s) is commercially available that is capable of accessing and re-trieving the data stored in the EDR that are required by this part. The tool(s) shall be commercially available not

11、later than 90 days after the first sale of the motor vehicle for purposes other than resale. 20、564.4 Definitions. All terms defined in the Act and the regulations and standards issued under its authority are used as defined there-in. 564.5 Information filing; agency proc-essing of filings. (a) Each manufacturer of a motor ve-hicle, original equipment headlamp, or original equipment headlamp r

21、eplace-able light source, which intends to manufacture a replaceable light source as original equipment or to incorporate a replaceable light source in its headlamps or motor vehicles, shall fur-nish the information specified in ap-pendix A. If the rated laboratory life of the light source is not le

22、ss than 2,000 hours, the manufacturer shall furnish the information specified in either ap-pendix A or appendix B of this part. In-formation shall be furnished to: Asso-ciate Administrator for Safety Per-formance Standards, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Sev-enth Street SW, Wash

23、ington, D.C. 20590. Attention: Part 564Replaceable Light Source Information (unless the agency has already filed such informa-tion in Docket No. NHTSA 983397). (b) The manufacturer shall submit such information not later than 60 days before it intends to begin the manufac-ture of the replaceable lig

24、ht source to which the information applies, or to in-corporate the light source into a headlamp or motor vehicle of its manu-facture. Each submission shall consist of one original set of information and 10 legible reproduced copies, all on 812 by 11-inch paper. (c) The Associate Administrator prompt

25、ly reviews each submission and informs the manufacturer not later than 30 days after its receipt whether the submission has been accepted. Upon acceptance, the Associate Admin-istrator files the information in Docket No. NHTSA 983397. The Associate Ad-ministrator does not accept any sub-mission that

26、 does not contain all the information specified in appendix A or appendix B of this part, or whose ac-companying information indicates that any new light source which is the sub-ject of a submission is interchangeable with any replaceable light source for which the agency has previously filed inform

27、ation in Docket No. NHTSA 98 3397. (d) A manufacturer may request modification of a light source for which information has previously been filed in Docket No. NHTSA 983397, and the submission shall be processed in the manner provided by 564.5(c). A re-quest for modification shall contain the followi

30、ndard No. 108 (49 CFR 571.108) when used to re-place an unmodified light source in a headlamp certified by its manufacturer as conforming to all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards, to-gether with reasons in support of the statement; and (4) Information demonstrating that the modificat

31、ion would not adversely affect interchangeability with the original light source. After review of the request for modi-fication, the Associate Administrator may seek further information either from the manufacturer or through a notice published in the FEDERAL REG-ISTER requesting comment on whether

32、a modified light source incorporating the changes requested will create a noncompliance with Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108 when sub-stituted for an unmodified light source. If the Associate Administrator seeks comment public comment on a submis-sion, (s)he shall publish a further no-tice sta

33、ting whether (s)he has accepted or rejected the submission. If a submis-sion is accepted, the Associate Admin-istrator files the information in Docket No. NHTSA 983397. If a submission is rejected, a manufacturer may submit information with respect to it, as pro-vided in paragraph 564.5(a), for cons

34、id-eration as a new light source after such changes as will ensure that it is not interchangeable with the light source for which modification was originally requested. (e) Information submitted under this section is made available by NHTSA for public inspection as soon as prac-ticable after its rec
