19、assageofwaterthroughthegeotextile.Aspecimenissubjected toasteadilyincreasingpressureofwaterononeface,understandardconditions, untilpenetrationoccurs.Thepressure,atwhichwaterpenetratesthegeotextile,is noted.Thewaterpressuremaybeappliedfrombeloworfromabovethespecimen. Thechosenalternativeshouldbestate

Theresultisimmediatelyrelevanttothebehaviourofgeotextileswhichare subjectedtowaterpressureforshortormoderateperiodsoftime.Themethodis primarilyintendedforlowpermeabilitygeotextiles. 4 Apparatus 4.1Theapparatususedforthetestshouldbedesignedtocomplywiththefollowing conditions. 4.1.1I

21、tshouldbepossibletoclampthecircularspecimenofgeotextileinsuchaway that: itishorizontalandnotbulging; acircularareaofthespecimenof(100 1)cmissubjectedtosteadily increasingwaterpressurefrombeloworfromabovethespecimen; noleakageofwatertakesplaceattheclampsduringthetest; thespecimendoesnotslipintheclamp

22、s; anytendencyforpenetrationtooccurattheclampededgeofthespecimen isminimised.Page4 EN13562:2000 NOTE:Withsomeformofapparatus,ithasbeenfoundthatcorrect conditionsofclampingcanbeattainediftheclampsarefacedwithsuitable rubber. Iftheapparatususedisofthetypeinwhichthewateriscontainedinthetesting headandrisestocomeintocontactwiththespecimen,thesurfaceofthewaterin thetestingheadmaybecleanedinoneofthefollowingways,statedinorderof preference: a)emptythetestinghead

24、andrefillwithsufficientfreshlydistilledwater; b)allowthedistilledwatertooverflowfromthetestingheadsothatthe surfaceofthewaterisclearedandsweepthesurfaceofthewaterwitha glassslidefreshlycoatedwithparaffinewax; c)allowthedistilledwatertooverflowfromthetestingheadsothatthe surfaceofthewateriscleared. 4

25、.1.3Therateofincreaseofwaterpressureshallbe(100 5)mm/min 4.1.4Itisnecessarytoprovideamanometerofsuitablerange,i.e.amanometer whichprovidesforwaterpressuresupto500mm.Themanometerconnectedtothe testingheadshallallowwaterpressurestobereadtoanaccuracyofatleast1mm. 5 Conditioning Conditioningandtestingsh

26、allbecarriedoutat(20 2)Cand(65 5)%relative humidity,inaccordancewithISO554. 6 Testspecimens 6.1Handling Thesampleshallnotbefoldedandshallbehandledasinfrequentlyaspossibleto avoiddisturbanceinitsstructure.Thesampleshallbekeptinaflatpositionwithout anyload. 6.2Sampling Taketestspecimensfromtheproducts

28、ntervalofthemean,thenumberoftestspecimensshouldbe determinedinaccordancewithISO2854. 6.4Conditionofspecimens Thespecimensshallbeclean,freefromsurfacedepositsandwithoutvisible damageorfoldingmarks. 7 Procedure 7.1Providefreshlydistilledwaterforeachspecimentested. 7.2Wipeallwaterfromclampingsurfaces.C

29、lamptheconditionedspecimeninthe testheadsothatthefaceofthegeotextilewillbeincontactwiththewater.The clampingshallbecarriedoutinsuchawaythatwaterwillnotbeforcedthroughthe specimenpriortothestartofthetest. 7.3Subjectthespecimenimmediatelytoincreasingwaterpressure.Watch continuouslyforevidenceofpenetra

30、tionbywater. 7.4Recordthepressureasconventionalmillimetresofwater,atwhichwaterfirst appearsincontinuousdropletformthroughthespecimen. 7.5Continuetoincreasethewaterpressureandrecordthemaximumwater pressureachieved.Donottakeintoaccountveryfinedropletswhichdonotgrow afterbeingformed.Notewhetherthepenet

31、rationofwateroccursattheedgeofthe clampandrejectasunsatisfactoryanytestinwhichsuchpenetrationoccursata pressurelessthanthelowestpressurerecordedfortheotherspecimensfromthe samesample. 7.6Testfurtherspecimensuntiltherequirednumberofsatisfactoryresultsis obtained. 8 Calculationandexpressionoftestresul
