20、hecarriagewayorarelikelytoencroachintothepathofoncoming vehicles.EN13172dealswiththeimpactperformanceofasafetybarrier.However,difficultiesarise inprovidingadequatesafeterminationstothebarrier.Consequently,terminals,whicharedefinedas thebeginningand/orendtreatmentofasafetybarrier,arerequiredtohavespe
21、cifiedimpact performances.Aterminalprovidesasmoothtransitionfromnocontainmenttothecontainmentofthe barrier,withoutintroducingadditionalhazardforheadonimpacts. Problemsmayalsoariseintheconnectionbetweentwodifferentsafetybarriershavingconsistent differenceinstiffness.Transitionsmaybeneeded,thatarerequ
22、iredtohavespecifiedimpact performances. TheobjectiveofthisprestandardistoleadtotheharmonizationofcurrentNationalRegulations,to categorizethemintoperformanceclassesandhelpdevelopnewsystemsandimproveexisting systems.
