Through these specif

3、ications this standard aims to assist designers and manufacturers inreducing the possibility of injury when these products are used in accordance with the operationalinstructions.The equipment user must recognize, however, that a standard alone will not necessarily preventinjuries. Like other physic

4、al activities, exercise involving fitness equipment involves the risk of injury,particularly if the equipment is used improperly or not properly maintained. In addition, users withphysical limitations should seek medical advice or instruction from the fitness facility, or both, priorto using this eq

5、uipment. Certain physical conditions or limitations may preclude some persons fromusing this equipment as intended by the manufacturer, and using this equipment may increase the riskof injury.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers the establishment of param-eters for the design and manufacture of mot

6、orized treadmills.1.2 It is the intent of this specification to specify productsfor use by individuals age 13 and above.1.3 This standard is to be used in conjunction with Speci-fication F2276, Test Methods F2571, and Test Methods F2106.1.4 This standard takes precedence over SpecificationF2276 and

7、Test Methods F2571 in areas that are specific tomotorized treadmills.1.5 This specification2establishes additional requirementsnot set forth in the referenced ASTM standards for the designof commercial fitness equipment to increase access and userindependence by people with functional limitations or

26、 support means, nsee hand grips.4. Design and Construction Requirements4.1 StabilityThe treadmill shall be stable during intendeduse and storage. Test in accordance with Test Methods F2106.4.2 Exterior Design:4.2.1 The rear roller of the treadmill shall be designed orguarded to reduce the risk of fi

27、nger entrapment. The guard ordesign shall function through the full range of inclinationpossible and through the full range of belt tension adjustment.The guard configurations shown in Fig. 2 are suggestions thatmay reduce the risks associated with this area. Fig. 2 assumesthat the treadmill is main

28、tained and adjusted per manufactur-ers recommendations.4.2.1.1 The intention of Fig. 2 is to show some possiblealternatives that have been used previously on treadmills toguard the rear roller area. This figure is not intended to limitalternatives that may more effectively address the hazard that is

29、present at the rear roller. The function of the guard is tominimize the possibility of finger entrapment between theroller and the moving surface and between the frame and theend of the roller without introducing an undo tripping hazard tothe user of the treadmill.4.2.2 Electrical elements shall be

30、guarded so as to meet orexceed UL 1647.4.2.3 All treadmills shall be equipped with foot rails tofacilitate user mounting and dismounting.4.2.3.1 Foot rails shall be adjacent to the moving surfaceand shall extend forward of LineAto either the motor cover orupright masts of the treadmill, and shall ex

31、tend rearward ofLine A to the end caps near the rear roller. See Fig. 3.4.2.3.2 For foot rail lateral spacing of 950 mm (37.4 in.) orless, the minimum foot rail surface width dimension shall be 75mm (2.9 in.). For foot rails spaced greater than 950 mm (37.4in.), the minimum foot rail surface width d

32、imension shall be150 mm (5.9 in.). See Fig. 3.4.2.4 Moving SurfaceOn institutional treadmills, visualmovement markings shall be provided on the moving surface.These markings shall be permanently affixed to, or be part of,the moving surface. These markings shall be of a contrastingcolor to the rest o

33、f the moving surface. A portion of thesemarkings shall always be visible when the moving surface is inoperation. The markings shall be a minimum width of 50 mm(2.0 in.) by a minimum 150 mm (5.9 in.) in length. Betweentwo markings a minimum space the size of one marking shallbe provided. See Fig. 4.4

34、.2.5 Moving Surface Slip ResistanceThe moving surfaceshall be constructed to minimize foot slippage.4.2.6 Hand Grips and Grippable Surfaces:4.2.6.1 Institutional and consumer treadmills that can sup-port speed above 5.0 km/h (3.1 mph) shall be equipped withgrippable surfaces to enhance stability and

Grippable surfaces shall comply with SpecificationF2276 hand grip non-slip specifications.4.2.6.2 Grippable surfaces shall each have a minimumcontinuous length of 175 mm (6.9 in.).4.2.6.3 Institutional and consumer treadmil

36、ls shall havegrippable surfaces located symmetrically about the longitudi-nal centerline of the treadmill. At least two symmetricallylocated grippable surfaces, each of minimum continuouslength, shall be located entirely within 480 mm (18.9 in.) of thelongitudinal centerline of the unit.4.2.6.4 At l

37、east two symmetrically located grippablesurfaces, each of minimum continuous length, shall be locatedbetween horizontal planes P1 and P2 when the treadmill is setto its minimum incline position. See 4.2.6.4(1) for procedurefor defining horizontal planes P1 and P2. At least two sym-metrically located

38、 grippable surfaces, each of minimum con-tinuous length, shall be located between horizontal planes P3and P4 when treadmill is set to its maximum incline position.See 4.2.6.4(1) for procedure for defining horizontal planes P3and P4 (see Figs. 5 and 6).(1) Procedure for Defining Horizontal Planes P1,

39、 P2, P3,and P4 for Evaluating Grippable Surface HeightRequirementsFirst, determine the position of a reference line,Line A, on top of the moving surface of the treadmill byreferring to Fig. 3. Define the usable moving surface on thetreadmill in the following way: Define a rectangle centered onthe lo

40、ngitudinal centerline of the treadmill that is the minimumwidth as defined in Table 1, where the rear edge of therectangle is located at the top tangent line of the rear roller, andwhere the front edge of the rectangle is located as far forwardon the treadmill as possible without the rectangle encou

41、nteringanything other than the moving surface (excluding rear rollerguards). The rectangle defines the usable moving area of thetreadmill, and the length of this rectangle is length L. DefineLine A as a line on top of the moving surface that is located adistance L/3 rearward from the front edge of t

The test load shall be distributed equallybetween the two grippable surfaces.4.3 Endurance Loading:4.3.1 Treadmills shall function per manufacturers specifi-cations after endurance loading as follows:4.3.1.1 Consumer Treadmills2 cycles/s 3600 s/h1husage/week 52 week

48、52 weeks/year 3 years a safety factor of2=46800actuations.4.4 Static LoadingThe moving surface and deck (if pres-ent) shall withstand a load equal to 4 maximum specified userweight for institutional treadmills and 2.5 maximum specifieduser weight for consumer treadmills without breakage. Thefoot rai

49、ls shall withstand a load equal to 2 the maximumspecified user weight without breakage.4.5 Adjustable Incline SystemThe adjustable inclinesystem, if the treadmill is so equipped, shall not move in excessof 25 mm/s (1 in./s) measured at any pinch or shear pointcreated by the movement of the incline system.4.6 Controls:4.6.1 A motorized treadmill shall be equipped with at leastone emergency stop.4.6.1.1 Emergency stops shall be actuated by a push-buttonor a pull-cord.4.6.1.2 Emergency stops shall be positioned to
