3、on covers mineral-colloid-stabilized,emulsified refined coal tar suitable for use as a weather-protective and petroleum (aliphatic) solvent resistant coatingover bituminous concrete pavements.1.2 Both products specified are prepackaged ready to usedriveway sealers primarily for retail homeowner use.

Classification4.1 This specification is designed to give specifying authori-ties the information neces

9、sary to ensure that the appropriaterefined coal tar emulsion mixtures are specified for protectingbituminous concrete pavements where fuel resistance is re-quired.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Base Refined Coal Tar EmulsionThis emulsion shallbe made using binders prepared from a high temperaturere

10、fined coal tar conforming to the requirements of SpecificationD490 for RT11 or higher. Base refined coal tar emulsion shallbe in accordance with all requirements of Specification D5727.5.2 AggregateAggregate is used in Type II materials toimprove traction and wearability. The aggregate shall be eith

11、era natural or manufactured aggregate composed of clean, hard,durable particles free of clay and other objectionable materialwhen testing in accordance with Test Method C142. (Boilerslag has been used successfully.)NOTE 1It is recommended that the nominal maximum size of theaggregate not exceed 0.6

Performance Requirements6.1 CompositionThe refined coal tar emulsion seal coatshall consist of a mixture of ingredients listed in Section 5 foreither specific Type I or II and shall meet all the requirementsof Table 1.6.2 Aggregate Verification TestIn order to verify that theproper a

16、mount of aggregate specified in Table 1 is contained inthe mixture, conduct an aggregate content test according toTest Methods D2939.6.3 The material, after stirring to homogeneity, shall besuitable for application brush, squeegee, roller, or suitablespray equipment without heating. The mixture shal

17、l be ofsuitable consistency for application by the selected method insingle coats of approximately (depending on pavement texture)2.9 to 4.9 m2/L 60 to 100 ft2/gal without appreciable drainageon inclines up to 0.8 %. The mixture shall conform to thephysical properties prescribed in Table 1 for Type

18、I or Type II.7. Sampling7.1 Sample in accordance with Practice D140 and TestMethods D2939.8. Inspection8.1 Inspection of material shall be made as agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the supplier.9. Packaging and Package Marking9.1 Emulsion shall be packaged to permit acceptance bycarrier for trans

19、portation and to afford adequate protectionfrom normal hazards of handling and shipping.9.2 Each package shall be plainly marked with the name andbrand of the manufacturer/supplier, ASTM designation as wellas the type or grade of the product, production code or lotnumber.10.
