2、 and for those confronted with chemical emergencies such as fires, accidentalspills, and transportation accidents. The information in this Guide can be used to identifythe hazardous properties of most of the chemicals in commercial use today, as well as manythat are available only in laboratory samp
3、le quantities.With the data and recommendations in this Guide, one can take the proper steps to preventfires and other emergencies during the use, storage, and transportation of chemicals andcan make informed decisions on the procedures to follow in an emergency involving chemi-cals. The Guide will
4、be particularly useful to fire and police department personnel and toothers with responsibility for protection of life and property.Preplanning is a well-proven means of increasing the effectiveness of fire-fighting opera-tions; it will be useful in minimizing the effects of fire and other emergenci
5、es involvingchemicals. The Guide provides essential information for preplanning activities. However, theexact plan of attack to be used at a chemical emergency cannot be decided until theemergency occurs and the properties of the chemicals involved have been identified. Withthe urgency of prompt ide
6、ntification in mind, the Guide has been arranged so that the usercan get to the necessary information with a minimum of delay.The Topic Finder, page v, is an alphabetical listing of the key topics to refer to in anemergency. These topics are printed in large type for easy reading under poor light co
7、ndi-tions.The three chemical matrixes assist the user in finding chemical information in this Guide.Matrix 1 lists the major chemical entries and references the appropriate document withinthe Guide. Matrix 2 lists common synonyms and references official chemical names and theappropriate document wit
8、hin the Guide. Matrix 3 is a numerically ordered list of ChemicalAbstracts Service (CAS) numbers and references the chemical name and the appropriatedocument within the Guide.While every effort has been made to make this Guide useful and complete, there are sureto be additional entries that should b
9、e included. Anyone wishing to recommend an additionor a correction, or wishing to comment, is encouraged to do so. Additional chemical entriesto the Hazardous Chemicals Data Compilation may be suggested using the sample data sheetincluded in Appendix B of that document.AcknowledgmentsThe editor woul

This data should be used in conjunction with the associate
