4、Summary This Recommendation presents the basic concepts of the Global Information Infrastructure (GII). It describes a number of models which can be used to represent the functional entities involved in the provision of the GII, and their interrelationships, from a variety of perspectives or view po

The IT Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) is a permanent organ of the ITU. The IT-T is responsible for studying

7、 technical, operating and tariff questions and issuing Recommendations on them with a view to standardizing telecommunications on a worldwide basis. The World Telecommunication Standardization Conference (WTSC), which meets every four years, establishes the topics for study by the ITU-T Study Groups

8、 which, in their turn, produce Recommendations on these topics. The approval of Recommendations by the Members of the ITU-T is covered by the procedure laid down in WTSC Resolution No. 1. In some areas of information technology which fali within IT-Ts purview, the necessary standards are prepared on

9、 a collaborative basis with IS0 and IEC. NOTE In this Recommendation, the expression “Administration“ is used for conciseness to indicate both a telecommunication administration and a recognized operating agency. 23、RE (Geneva, 1998) 1 Introduction The Global Information Infrastructure (GII) enables people to securely use a set of communication services supporting an open multitude of applications and embracing all modes of information, any time, anywhere, and at an acceptable cost and quality. The GI1 also sup

24、ports the goal of an international consensus on common principles governing the need of access to networks and applications and their operability based on a seamless federation of interconnected, interoperable communication networks, information processing equipment, databases and terminals. 2 Scope

25、 This Recommendation is designed to be a high-level systems engineering document presenting concepts needed to support the realization of the GII. However, it is not expected to present all inclusive detailed specifications for the GII. Rather, this Recommendation is intended to be used as a backgro

26、und document for use by ITU Study Groups and other groups outside the ITU to use as input for their development of detailed standards for critical functionalities required to support the enhancement of the GII. In support of identieing the functionalities required to support the enhancement of the G

27、II, GI1 functional entities and their relationships are described. This functionality-based view of the GI1 will also need to be balanced with physical aspects (e.g. the results of the use of the scenario-based approach discussed in Recommendation Y. 120), resulting in the development of GI1 functio

28、nal models consisting of functional entities and reference points. It is hoped that these GI1 models will effectively represent a functional perspective from which numerous physical views can be developed. 3 Terms and references For further study. 4 The objective of the GI1 is to ensure that each ci

29、tizen may eventually gain access to the information society. This can be enabled by the interoperability of networks, information processing systems and applications. These principles will apply to the GI1 by means of: promotion of interconnectivity and interoperabi

32、lity ; developing global markets for networks, services and applications; ensuring privacy and data security; cooperating in R monitoring of the social and societal implications of the information society. protecting intellectual property rights; 5 In accordance with the general aim of this Recommen

33、dation to give information on where more detailed standardization is appropriate, this clause identifies some of the more important aspects of the GI1 as seen from the users of the GI1 - in particular, the services offered and applications supplied by the GII. The viewpoint of groups will be different and will tend to emphasize aspects which are important to that group. By examining the GI1 fr

38、om these multiple perspectives, a progressively more complete understanding can be obtained with the added consideration of each view. 40、atures. The following list illustrates some of the manners by which GI1 users might need to interact with the GII: GI1 users may need to be able to “see“ (Le. be aware of) only the GI1 users with whom they are redly interested in forming a relationship. In this context, applications would be “seen“

41、as components of the sought relationships, without concern for the services supporting these relationships or to other involved GI1 users (as illustrated in Figure 5-3); GI1 users may need to be able to see“ (Le. invoke and use) applications without concern for the services supporting the applicatio

42、ns or to other GI1 users involved in the applications and in the provision of involved services (also illustrated by Figure 5-3); GI1 users may need to be able to “see“ (i.e. invoke and use) applications, while at the same time being concerned with being aware of or choosing some of the: - - service

45、I1 The difference is the way in which the infrastructure is visible to the user. In the first case, the service provider chooses to include the provision of infrastructural services as part of its service (800 service is a simple example), while in the second case, the end user takes responsibility

46、for the provision of at least some of the infrastructural services. 5.2 Figure 5-5 gives a conceptual overview of the GI1 and its users.
