27、efinedstrengthandsize andsteelsampleswithelectroplatednonmagneticcoatingsofdifferentthickness. Thus,exceptforlowlevelsof d ferritecontent(below10%),theferritenumberisnotnecessarilyidenticalwiththe percentageferritecontentoftheweldmetal. 7 Designation Thevalueofferritenumber(FN),asdeterminedinaccorda

28、ncewiththisstandard,shallbedesignatedandreported onthetestcertificateasfollows,whichrelatestoameasuredvalueof8: Measurement: 8FN 8 Procedure 8.1 Locationofmeasurementsurface Inthecaseofallweldmetal,themeasurementsurfaceshallbelocatedasdescribedinEN15971.Forwelds,the measurementsshallbetakenatthecent

29、reoftheweld,takingintoaccountthecharacteristicsoftheinstrument whenmeasuringsmallweldsorthinsurfacingsconsistingofausteniticmaterials.ENISO17655:2003(E) 7 8.2 Preparationofmeasurementsurface Themeasurementsurfaceshallbebrightandsmoothandsufficientlyflatsoastoensureadequatecouplingofthe testmagnetort

30、estprobe.Tothiseffect,thetoprunshallbesmooth,e.g.bygrindingand/orfiling,inthedirectionof theweldbead.Nounacceptablemicrostructurechanges(e.g.formationofdeformationmartensite)ortemper coloursshallbeformedduringgrinding. Thelengthofthemeasurementsurfaceshallbe40mm,withaminimumwidthof5mm.Themeasurement

31、surface shallnotexhibitanyweldbeadstartsandendcratersandshallbefreefromforeignmatter,suchaslubricants,dirt ormagneticparticles. 8.3 Instruments Suitableinstrumentshallbeusedtodeterminetheferritenumber,takingintoaccounttheirrangeofapplicationas specifiedbythemanufacturer. 8.4 Calibration Priortouse,t

32、heinstrumentsshallbecalibratedwiththeaidofsecondaryweldmetalstandardsaccordingto ENISO8249.Thesecondaryweldmetalstandardandthespecifiedmeasuringrangeshallbeselectedtosuitthe ferritenumbertobedetermined. 8.5 Procedure Since d ferriteisnotuniformlydistributedinthematerial,theresultobtainedforoneandthe

33、sameweldmetalmay varyfrommeasuringpointtomeasuringpoint.Thus,measurementshallbecarriedoutatsixpointsequallyspaced alongthecentrelineofthemeasurementsurface(seeFigure1). Theferritenumberisthearithmeticalaveragevaluefrom6singlemeasurements,roundedtothenextwhole number.Testingshallbecarriedoutatambient

34、temperature.Thegaugingsurfaceshallnotbeexposedtoimpacts orvibrationsduringmeasuring.
