It is essential thatthese systems be carefully maintained to ensure instant readiness whenrequired.Use of this documentAs a code of practice, this British Standard takes the form of guidance andrecommendations. 39、 fire strategy for a building might necessitate some deviations from therecommendations in this British Standard. If this is the case then this should bediscussed and agreed with the authority having jurisdiction and the local fireand rescue service.Fire mains should have a minimum nominal bore of 1

40、00 mm and the systemshould be designed to withstand a pressure of one and half times its predictedmaximum operating pressure.Isolating valves should be incorporated in the system at intervals notexceeding 10 m on vertical pipework so that sections of the fire main can beisolated to enable repairs to

41、 be carried out. In addition, where there is morethan one vertical main supplied from a horizontal wet main, valves should beinstalled on each vertical main below the first landing valve outlet. Such valvesshould be secured in the open position by a chain and padlock or incorporatedwithin a monitori

42、ng system to indicate when the valve is not fully open.Installed equipment should be protected against interference and attack bythieves and vandals as far as it is possible to do so without adversely affectingoperational capability. This should be done in accordance with Annex A.4.1.2 MaterialsFire

43、 mains and associated pipework and fittings should be of suitable heavyquality steel to meet the pressure, robustness and durability requirements of thesystem in question, including galvanizing where necessary.Pipework should be jointed by screwing and socketing, or by any other meansselected as sui

44、table for use, except at valves or other fittings where appropriateflanges in accordance with the relevant parts of BS EN 1092 and BS EN 1515 maybe used. Such means may be selected on the basis of practical tests and evidenceof satisfactory performance in similar applications such as wet or dry syst

45、emsprinkler installations.All changes in the direction of the run of the piping should be made withstandard bends, springs or long turn fittings. Elbows should not be used.4.1.3 Dry fire mains4.1.3.1 Design operating pressureDry fire mains should have an operating pressure of 12 bar.4.1.3.2 InletsA

46、dry fire main should be fitted with a two-way inlet breeching for 100 mmmains. Each breeching should conform to BS 5041-3. Such breeching should beaccommodated in an inlet box conforming to BS 5041-5, the box beingpositioned with its lower edge between 400 mm and 600 mm above groundlevel.Any propose

47、d use of floor-mounted inlets, or inlet cabinet doors integrated intothe building fabric, should be discussed and agreed with the local fire andrescue service.NOTE Floor-mounted (horizontal) inlets are not suitable for the majority of firemain applications.BRITISH STANDARDBS 9990:20154 The British S

48、tandards Institution 20154.1.3.3 Drain valvesInlet breechings should be fitted with a 25 mm drain valve, in accordancewith BS 5041-3, to facilitate draining the rising main after use.4.1.3.4 Air release valveAn air release valve should be installed at the top of all vertical mains in orderto vent ai

49、r from the main and to act as a vacuum break to allow drainage totake place.4.1.4 Wet fire mains4.1.4.1 Design operating pressureSystems should be designed such that maximum system pressures serving a firemain outlet do not exceed 20 bar.4.1.4.2 LocationWet rising mains should not be located against or near external walls unlessthey are adequately insulated or otherwise satisfactorily protected against frost(see BS EN 806-2).4.1.5 Landing valvesA landing valve should be provided at each floor level, including the groundfloor level, wher
