Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers an 85 % pla
3、tinum15 % iri-dium alloy, and a 90 % platinum10 % iridium alloy, in theform of rod, wire, strip, and sheet material for electricalcontacts.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. The metric equivalents of inch-pound unitsmay be approximate.1.3 The original specif
4、ication, B 684-81, covered the 85 %platinum 15 % iridium alloy. The 1997 revision of this speci-fication added the 90 % platinum 10 % iridium alloy.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this st
5、andard to become familiarwith all hazards including those identified in the appropriateMaterial Safety Data Sheet for this product/material as pro-vided by the manufacturer, to establish appropriate safety andhealth practices, and determine the applicability of regulatorylimitations prior to use.2.

Manufacture3.1 Raw materials shall be of such quality and purity thatthe finished product will have the properties and characteristicsprescribed in this specification.3.2 The material shall be finished by such operations (coldworking, annealing, turning, grinding, or pickling
8、) as arerequired to produce the prescribed properties.4. General Requirements4.1 The provisions of Specification B 476 shall apply to allmaterials produced to this specification.5. Chemical Requirements5.1 Material produced under the specification shall meet therequirements of chemical composition p
9、rescribed in Table 1.5.2 By agreement between purchaser and manufacturer,analysis may be required and limits established for elements orcompounds not specified in the table of chemical composition.NOTE 1Analysis is regularly made for the elements for which specificlimits are listed. If, however, the
10、 presence of “other” elements is suspectedor indicated in the course of routine analysis, further analysis shall bemade to determine that the total of these “other” elements and the listedimpurities is not in excess of the total impurities limit.6. Mechanical Requirements6.1 The contract or order ma
11、y specify ultimate tensilestrength, elongation, microhardness (Knoop or Vickers), hard-ness (Rockwell or Rockwell Superficial), or a combination ofthese mechanical properties as temper criterion. If the contractor order does not specify a temper criterion, then the criterionfor temper designation wi
12、ll be ultimate tensile strength.6.2 The mechanical properties shall conform to those prop-erties listed in Table 2 and Table 3.
