Ordering Information4.1 It shall be the responsibility of the purchaser to specifyall requirements that a
8、re necessary for material under thisspecification. Such requirements include, but are not limited to,the following:4.1.1 Quantity (weight),4.1.2 Name of material (Sections 1 and 7),4.1.3 Diameter (Table 1),4.1.4 Packaging, marking, and loading (Section 12),4.1.5 ASTM designation and date of issue,4.
9、1.6 Special requirements (Sections 8 and 9), and4.1.7 End use.NOTE 1A typical ordering description is as follows: Steel Wire, HighCarbon Spring, for Heat-Treated Components, Grade 1070, to ASTMA 713 dated _, for Door Closer Springs, 30 000 lb, Size 0.250 in.in 500-lb Catch Weight Coils.5. General Re
10、quirements for Delivery5.1 Material furnished under this specification shall con-form to the applicable requirements of the latest edition ofSpecification A 510 unless otherwise specified herein.6. Materials and Manufacture6.1 The steel shall be made by the open-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric-fur
11、nace process.6.2 The wire, prior to fabrication, shall be thermally treatedor thermally treated and drawn.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee A01 on Steel,Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, and is the direct responsibility of SubcommitteeA01.03 on Steel Rod and Wire.Curr

15、at the discretion of the purchaser andis generally dependent on the severity of the component part tobe formed.7. Chemical Composition7.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements for chemicalcomposition prescribed in Table 2 for the grade ordered.7.2 A chemical composition other than those shown
16、in Table2 may be supplied when agreed upon by the manufacturer andpurchaser.7.3 An analysis of each cast or heat shall be made by themanufacturer to determine the percentage of elements specifiedin Table 2. The chemical composition thus determined shall bereported to the purchaser or his representat
17、ive upon request.7.4 A product analysis may be made by the purchaser. Thechemical composition thus determined, as to elements requiredor restricted, shall conform to permissible variations forproduct analysis as specified in Table 10 in SpecificationA 510. For referee purposes, Test Methods E 30 or
18、TestMethods E 350 shall be used.8. Metallurgical Structure8.1 Austenitic grain size, when specified, shall be deter-mined in accordance with the requirements of Test MethodsE 112 or some other mutually agreeable method.9. Mechanical Properties9.1 Tensile strength is not normally a requirement. Mini-
19、mum or maximum values for tensile strength may be agreedupon between the purchaser and manufacturer and are depen-dent on the chemical composition, thermal treatment, anddiameter of wire specified.9.2 Wrap Test:9.2.1 RequirementsWire shall wind without fracture on acylindrical mandrel of a diameter
20、specified in Table 3. Thewrap test is not applicable to wires over 0.312 in. (8 mm).Since the conventional methods will not accommodate wiresizes over 0.312 in., an alternative test procedure may beagreed upon between the purchaser and manufacturer.9.2.2 Number of TestsAt least one test specimen sha
21、ll betaken for each ten coils or fraction thereof in a lot.9.2.3 Location of TestThe test specimen shall be takenfrom either end of the coil.9.2.4 Test MethodThe wrap test shall be made in accor-dance with Supplement IV of Test Methods and DefinitionsA 370.10. Dimensions and Tolerances10.1 The diame
22、ter of the wire shall not vary from thespecified size by more than the tolerance shown in Table 1.11. Workmanship11.1 The surface of the wire as received shall be substan-tially free of rust and such other surface imperfections of anature or degree, for the grade ordered, that will be detrimentalto
