PAGE 5 Add: “4.7.2 STRETCH TEST “4.7.2.1 Preparation of test specimen.- The test specimen shall be a 3- by 6-inch rectangle of the cloth. The long dimension shall be parallel to the length (wales) of the fabri

8、c for stretch tests in the length direction, and parallel to the width (courses) of the fabric for stretch tests in the width direction. The specimen shall be taken from no nearer the selvage than one- tenth the width of the cloth or, when the cloth s less than 40 inches wide, not less than 4 inches

9、 from the selhe. parallel lines, 3 inches apart, shall be drawn and centered at right angles to the long dimension of the specimen. In addition, a line shall be drawn parallel to the long dimension of the speci- men and 1 inch from either edge for properly aligning the speci- men in the jaws of the

10、test apparatus, Five specimens each shall be prepared for stretch determination in the direction of wales and courses. “4.7.2.2 Test apparatus.- The test device (see figure 1) shall be an apparatus wherein the specimen is held between twa clamps. The design of the upper clamp shall be such that one

11、gripping surface or jaw shall be an integral part of the rigid frame of the clamp. The face of the movable jaw shall measure 1 inch by i inch and the face of the fixed jaw shall measure 1 inch by 1-1/2 or more inches with the long dimension perpendicular to the direction of the application of the lo

12、ad. The lower clamp shall have similar jaws and, with weight attached, shall weigh a total of 6 pounds. All jaws shall have smooth gripping surfaces, sufficiently flat and parallel to prevent slipping of the speci- men during the test. “4.7.2.3 Procedure.- The specimen shall be placed symmetrically

13、in the clamps of the test apparatus with the long dimension parallel and the short dimension at right angles to the direction to the application of the load.-Using the premarked, specified guide lines, the specimen shall be aligned with one outside edge of the front jaws of each clamp. The proper we

14、ight shall be added to the lower clamp to insure a total weight of 6. pounds (including the weight of the lower clamp).
