15、Glossary of terms in timber-related Standards ISO 8402 Quality management and quality assurance Vocabulary 3 DEFINITIONS For the purpose of this Standard the definitions in AS/NZS 4491 and AS/NZS ISO 8402 apply. 4 MOISTURE CONTENT FOR ACCEPTANCE TESTING To meet the requirements of this Standard the

16、test pieces shall have a moisture content of 8 % to 15 %. The moisture content shall be determined in accordance with AS/NZS 2098.1. 5 APPARATUS 5.1 For determination of thickness A suitable linear measuring instrument, i.e., a screw micrometer, vernier callipers or a dial gauge, having flat and par

17、allel measuring surfaces with a contact area between 30 mm2 and 250 mm2with a reading to an accuracy of 0.1 mm. 5.2 For determination of length and width A suitable linear measuring instrument with a reading to an accuracy of 0.5 mm. 5.3 For determination of spring The following is required: (a) At

18、least two thumb tacks or a stapling gun and staples. (b) Two blocks with flat surfaces, for which the difference in thickness does not exceed 0.1 mm. NOTE Blocks of 30 mm 15 mm 20 mm have been found suitable. (c) Strong thin wire or cord. (d) A suitable linear measuring instrument with a reading to

19、an accuracy of 0.5 mm. 5 AS/NZS 4357.1:2005 COPYRIGHT 5.4 For determination of bow The following is required: (a) A nominally flat, near horizontal surface, larger than the test piece by at least 25 mm in each direction. (b) A suitable linear measuring instrument with a reading to an accuracy of 0.5

(c) Masses totalling 85 5 kg. 5.5 For determination of twist The following is required: (a) A nominally flat, near horizontal surface, larger than the test piece by at least 25 mm in each direction. (b) A suitable linear measuring instrument with a reading to an accuracy of 0.5 mm. 5.6 For dete

21、rmination of squareness The following is required: (a) A square with legs at least 25 mm longer than the width of the test piece to be measured; the tolerance for out-of-squareness of the legs of the square being 1 mm/m. (b) Suitable linear measuring device capable of measuring gaps to an accuracy o

22、f 0.1 mm. 6 PROCEDURES 6.1 General The moisture content of the piece shall be determined in accordance with Clause 0. 6.2 Determination of thickness The thickness of the piece shall be measured at six places, one approximately in the middle of each long side and approximately 25 mm from the edges, a

23、nd one at each corner approximately 25 mm in from the edge and 200 mm in from the end (see Figure Error! Reference source not found.). 24、S AS/NZS 4357.1:2005 6 COPYRIGHT 6.3 Determination of length and width The length and width of the piece shall be measured to the nearest 1 mm, along both long sides and both ends, i.e., two measurements each for length and width. The measurements shall then be recorded. 6.6 Determination of spring

25、The procedures for determining spring shall be as follows: (a) Lay on flat the piece to be checked. (b) Take the measurement of the concave edge of the piece (see Figure 2). (c) Attach the wire or cord to one end of the piece with a thumbtack or staple. (d) Place the blocks (see Clause 0) on the edg

26、e to be measured and at each end of the piece. (e) Pull the wire or cord around one corner, over both blocks, and around the other corner. (f) Attach the loose end of the wire or cord to the other end of the piece with a thumbtack or staple, so the wire or cord is held taut. (g) Measure the perpendi

27、cular distance between the wire or cord and the midpoint of the piece at the centre of the edge, to the nearest 0.5 mm. (h) Record the deviation from straightness, i.e., the spring, as the difference between the measurement taken in Item (g) and the average thickness of the blocks. FIGURE 2 MEASUREM

28、ENT OF SPRING (PLAN VIEW) 6.5 Measurement of bow The procedures for the measurement of bow shall be as follows: (a) Place the piece on the nominally flat, near horizontal surface with convex face up, as shown in Figure 3. (b) Place the load of 85 5 kg on the centre of the piece. (c) Measure the maxi

29、mum distance, if any, between the nominally flat surface and the underside of the piece. Make allowance, if necessary, in the measurement for the out-of-flatness of the nominally flat surface. 30、W 6.6 Measurement of twist The procedures for the measurement of twist shall be as follows: (a) Place the piece on the nominally flat, near horizontal surface, with three corners in contact with the surface, as shown in Figure 4. (b) Measure the distance, if any, between the fourth corner of the pie

31、ce and the nominally flat surface. Make allowance, if necessary, in the measurement for the out-of-flatness of the nominally flat surface. (c) Record the measurement to the nearest 0.5 mm. 32、uareness of section shall be as follows: (a) The squareness of section shall be measured at three positions along the edge to be checked; one approximately in the middle, and the others 200 mm from each end of the piece. (b) Place the square on the edge to be checked, so one leg of the square is but

33、ted firmly against the edge (see Figure 5). (c) Measure the gap, if any, between the face at the opposite edge of the piece and the other leg of the square. 34、ARENESS 7 RECORDING OF RESULTS The results of each measurement shall be recorded as follows: Thickness to the nearest 0,1 mm Length and wiidth to the nearest 1 mm. Spring to the nearest 0.5 mm. Blow to the nearest 0.5 mm. Twist to the nearest 0.5 mm. Squareness to the nearest 0.1 mm. 8 TEST REPORT The report shall include the following: (a) Maximum, minimum and mean of the results. (b) Moisture content of the pieces at the time of measuring. (c)Reference to this Standard, i.e., AS/NZS 4357.1. SABS
