10、08 Edition 1.1 3 Electrical terminals and connectors Part 2: Flat push-on connectors 1 Scope 1.1 This part of the specification covers flat push-on connectors, comprising rectangular tabs and their mating receptacles, intended for use in a.c. and d.c. medium and low voltage electrical circuits and h
11、aving various maximum operating temperatures up to 300 C. 1.2 This part of the specification does not cover screw and screwless terminals1). NOTE a) The standards referred to in this part of the specification are listed in appendix A. b) Information regarding the verification of the quality of flat
12、push-on connectors produced to this part of the specification, and the sampling plan to be used to assess compliance with this part of the specification of a lot of flat push-on connectors are given in appendix B. 2 Definitions 2.1 For the purposes of this part of the specification the following def
13、initions shall apply: conductor connection the electrical and mechanical connection between a conductor and a receptacle or tab flat push-on connector connector an assembly of a tab and a receptacle, enabling a core or conductor to be connected to an item of electrical equipment or to another core o
14、r conductor maximum permissible operating temperature the highest temperature, as specified by the manufacturer, that a connector is allowed to attain in normal use and that is produced as a result of ambient conditions and induced heat nominal cross-sectional area (size) (of a conductor) the electr

16、onnector sleeve a sheath or cover intended to provide electrical insulation to a receptacle or to a tab tab the male part of a connector NOTE Where values of voltage and current are given, they are r.m.s. values, unless otherwise specified. 3 Constructional requirements 3.1 Nominal size and conducto
17、r capacity 3.1.1 Nominal size A flat push-on connector shall be of one of the nominal sizes given in column 1 of table 1. 3.1.2 Conductor capacity A connector shall be capable of accepting a conductor of one or more of the rated areas given in column 2 of table 1, appropriate to the nominal size of
18、the connector and as stated by the manufacturer (see 5.2.2(a)(3). SANS 1433-2:2008 Edition 1.1 5 3.2 Design and construction The tab and the receptacle of a connector shall be so designed and constructed that a) they cause no
20、 danger to persons or surroundings even in the event of such careless use as may occur in normal service; b) the required reliability and degree of safety are maintained throughout the life of the connector; c) they allow the connection of stranded (flexible or rigid) or solid conductors without add
21、itional preparation of the conductors other than stripping of the insulation. The receptacle of a connector shall be self-adjusting to enable it to accommodate a tab of the appropriate nominal size and, when provided with a combined means of retention and location, shall be so designed that proper l
22、ocation occurs only when the receptacle is in full engagement with the tab. 3.3 Dimensions When measured in accordance with 6.3, the dimensions of each tab shall conform to the values given in figure 1 and the dimensions of each receptacle shall conform to the values given in figure 2. 4 Electrical
23、and physical requirements 4.1 Mechanical strength of conductor connections When a connector is tested in accordance with 6.4, the conductor shall not break at the joint with, or become detached from, the tab or the receptacle, as relevant. 4.2 Mechanical reliability of receptacles When a connector i
24、s tested in accordance with 6.5, the insertion force shall not exceed the appropriate maximum value given in column 2 or 3, as applicable, of table 2 and the withdrawal force shall not exceed the appropriate maximum value and shall not be less than the appropriate minimum value given in the table.
