It turned out he was General Manager of the company. “Sorry I had to keep you waiting, but I was pretty sure I made the 3right decision to have you as part of our workforce before you even stepped into
5、 the office. I just know youd be a trustworthy worker. Congratulations!” Jimmy sat down and they shared a cup of well-deserved coffee as he landed himself a new job. 4. The report lists ten books, and various authors, which people have lied about reading, and as Im not one to lie too often (Id hate to be 4caught out), Ill admit here and now that I havent read the entire top ten. But I am pleased to say that, unlike 42 percent of people, I have read the
11、book at number one, George Orwells 1984. I think its really brilliant.The World Book Day report also has some other interesting information in it. It says that many people lie about having read Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Fyodor Dostoevsky (I havent read him, but havent lied about it either) and H
12、erman Melville.Asked why they lied, the most common reason was to “impress” someone they were speaking to. This could be tricky if the conversation became more in-depth!But when asked which authors they actually enjoy, people named J. K. Rowling, John Grisham, Sophie Kinsella (ah, the big sellers, i

Forty-two percent of people asked admitted they turned to the back of the book to read the end before finishing the story (Ill come clean: I do this and am astonished that 58 percent said they had never done so).8. Thus our hearts can also affect what we see and what we dont see and guide whether we see fear.”To further under
20、stand this relationship, the scientists also used a brain scanner to show how the brain influences the way the heart changes a persons feeling of fear. “We have found an important mechanism by which the heart and brain speak to each other to change our feelings and reduce fear,” Dr. Garfinkel said.“
21、We hope that by increasing our understanding about how fear is dealt with and ways that it could be reduced, we may be able to develop more successful treatments for anxiety disorders, and also for those who may be suffering from serious stress disorder.”12.
