In each series, the new standards correspond to specific types ofapplication and different user requirements. Enhanced and new media correspond also to advancements in drive

、change on 12,7 mm 128-Track Magnetic Tape Cartridges - DLT 3-XT FormatStandards ECMA-182, ECMA-197, ECMA-209 and ECMA-231 concern a cartridge of a type different from that of StandardsECMA-120, ECMA-152 or ECMA-196. Whilst the magnetic tape is also 12,7 mm wide, these standards are characterized byt
、he fact that the physical tracks, recorded and read in pairs, constitute two groups, the first recorded and read in forwarddirection, the second in reverse direction. The capacity and performance of the first four DLT cartridges have been improvedby raising the number of tracks from 48 in DLT 1 to 1
、28 for DLT 4 and by using an improved magnetic tape in DLT 4.The present ECMA Standard for the DLT 5 cartridge uses the same tape as DLT 4. The number of tracks is raised to 208 andtheir layout is different. As a result a native capacity of 35 Gbytes or, with compressed data, of typically at least 7
、0 Gbytes isachieved. All ECMA Standards listed above have been adopted by ISO/IEC as International Standards. The present ECMA Standard willalso be contributed to ISO/IEC for adoption as an International Standard under the fast-track procedure.Adopted as an ECMA Standard by the General Assembly of Ju
