2、o MIL-S- 23244 for all federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers hand and foot operated squaring shears, equipment and accessories herein specified with a shearing capacity of 16 gauge mild steel. 2. CLASSIFICATION. Shearing machines shall be of the following types an

3、d sizes. 2.1 Tvpe. Type is defined as the combination of frame design and method of operation. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.3), the types described herein are as follows: Type I - Bench mounting, gapless frame, hand lever operation. Type II - Floor mounted, gapless frame, foot treadle operation

4、. Type III - Floor mounted, gap frame, foot treadle operation. 2.2 Size. Size is defined as the cutting width of the machine. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.3), the sizes described herein are as follows: Size A - 6 inches Size B - 12 inches Size C - 24 inches Size D - 36 inches Size E - 48 inches

The shearing machine shall include all components, parts, and features necessary to meet the performance requirements specified herein. The shearing machine shall be manudly operated and designed to ac

8、complish shearing of 16 gauge mild steel by the movement of a crosshead mounted upper shear blade past the stationary lower shear blade. The operating mechanism shall be designed to assure that sufficient force is developed by a single stroke of the lever to accomplish the shearing performance requi

9、rements of this CID. The shearing machine shall comply with the requirements of ANSI B 1 1.4 and the safety requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1910. I II II II, III II 3.2 Frame. The crosshead shall be constructed of either iron or steel, designed to guide the upper shear blade during shearing

11、action. The crosshead shall be provided with adjustable stops for controlling the disthce of blade travel. Crosshead travel shall be accomplished on machined bearing surfaces with provisions to compensate for wear. 3.2.2 Holddown mechanism. Shearing machines with cutting capacities greater than 6 in

12、ches in length shall be provided with a holdown, or similar device, for holding the work piece securely in place during cutting operations. The holddown shall be either automatic or manuaily operated. The holddown mechanism shall provide an unobstructed view of the shearing action fiom the operators

13、 station when the holddown mechanism is activated. 3.2.3 conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices; and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial market.
