20、d) and two attachment collars from the kickback fixture. (It might be necessary to adjust the length of the existing rotational axles.) Install the GKU in the kickback machine in accordance with Figures F.4 and F.5 and adjust the unit laterally such that the tip of the guide bar aligns with the cent

21、reline of the MDF specimen.F.3.2 Balancing the GKU in the kickback fixtureIt is necessary to balance the GKU after it has been installed in the kickback fixture. Balance the GKU as follows without the electric extension cord or any other cords attached:(a) Balance in the vertical orientation in acco

22、rdance with Figure F.4. Ensure that the counterbalance weights are located at approximately the same location on each adjustment arm. After vertical balance has been achieved, retighten the four locking knobs.(b) Balance in the horizontal orientation in accordance with Figure F.5. After horizontal b

23、alance has been achieved, indicated by the lateral line drawn on the side of the bar being level and stable, retighten the bolts that were loosened in this step. Ensure that the indicator marks on each side of the unit are approximately in the same position and that the bar tip remains in the centre

24、 of the MDF coupon. The GKU is capable of achieving acceptable balance without the addition of external weights. Acceptable initial balance is achieved when the cradle will not rotate at the horizontal or vertical position or when a 60 g (0.13 lb) weight hung from the rotary pulley will counter any

25、observed rotation. F.3.3 Routing the electric extension cordTo minimize the influence the electric extension cord has on the balance of the GKU, route and secure it as close to the rotational axis as possible.F.3.4 Restraining cable adjustmentWith the guide bar centreline in horizontal level positio

26、n, adjust the location of the cable attachment pin and adjust the mechanism to bring the 0.9 kg (2 lb) weight to the zero position. See Clause 5.5.3.4 and Figure 7.F.4 Kickback fixture set-up (linear system)F.4.1 MDF initial angleSet the MDF angle to 30. Move the carriage so that the MDF contacts th

27、e saw chain. Adjust the position of the rack/horizontal restraining assembly so that the cable from the carriage to the pulley is vertical. See Clause 5.5.3.3 and Figure 6.F.4.2 Carriage release point adjustmentAdjust the carriage release point to achieve an impact velocity of 0.76 0.01 m/s (30 in/s

28、 0.5 in/s). See Clause 5.5.3.3 for more information.F.4.3 Linear carriage set-upResearch indicates that carriage mass has a significant influence on kickback energy. Carriage mass is a test parameter that is adjusted to help achieve the desired energy measurement results from the GKU. Experimentatio

29、n has demonstrated that the value of the total carriage mass shown in Table F.2 will result in kickback energy levels that very closely emulate the traditional worst-case saws for each chain family (trade size) (see the Note to Clause 6.5). It is critical to use the appropriate mass during testing.

The average of the horizontal friction measurements in the direction of travel away from the powerhead cannot exceed 2.2 N (0.5 lbf).F.5.2 Rotary frictionMeasure rotary friction before and after kickback energy testing usi

The average of the rotary friction measurements cannot exceed 2.2 N (0.5 lbf).F.6 TachometerThe GKU motor speed controller needs to be programmed to produce both 9000 200 rpm and 11 000 200 rpm drive speeds under the load of driving the saw chain. The GKU

33、 is equipped with a 60-tooth gear and a tachometer pickup to allow checking of the speed.
