4、ewer and why they are hiring. One way or another they are seeking a resource as a solution to an identified problem. So work on understanding the organisational need and how you can add value. Look at the challenges and opportunities they face and work out how to show that your experience and expert
5、ise are relevant. Use your network to gather all the intelligence you can. 2 Rehearse your presentation. I dont necessarily mean being word perfect. Im talking about what you say when anyone asks you what you do, why you left, what you have achieved and so on. Can you talk about yourself comfortably
6、, with confidence, concisely with clarity? Practice so that you have the right words, dont get flustered, talk at the right pace and, crucially, know when to stop. Remember the need for consistency between words and body language. 3 People trained in interview techniques are told to use the 70/30 ru
7、le. That is to say the interviewer aims to talk for about 30% of the time allotted and the candidate talks 70% of the time, in response. The smart candidate actually wants a 50/50 dialogue. You should aim for a conversation, directed along the lines you preferwhereby you can play to your strengths.
8、The interviewer can only go with what you give them. Make it easy for the interviewer by saying “Have I told you all you need to know on that subject? Can I give you more detail?“ Build rapport, find some common ground. But remember its not a monologue , you are both actors in the interview. 4 Henry

And getting a referral from someone who can t even repeat what you do for a living may
16、 come across as a weak attempt at getting your foot in the door, not a strong recommendation. The best contact is one who knows your career progression and accomplishments. 2 Your dream job resides in sales and marketing, but your contact at the company works in tech support. At small companies, thi
17、s link may be sufficient enough to secure you an interview, but you cant always count on it. The best referral will come from someone who is knowledgeable about the open position and the kind of requirements and experience it entails. 3 If you decide that your contact is a strong one, then make your
18、 request in writing. Your potential referrer can then take the time to thoughtfully consider whether or not she is comfortable making an introduction before responding to you with her answer. And you give her a chance to quickly research any pertinent information regarding the hiring manager and job
19、 qualifications. 4 When making your referral request, ask your contact whether she is comfortable providing a referral. While you might be eager to cut to the chase by asking directly for an endorsement, a wishy-washy or noncommittal referral can be worse than no referral at all, so dont take it per
20、sonally if she refuses. But hopefully youve carefully considered your relationship with this person so that the answer is a confident “Yes!“ 5 Even if your contact agrees to put you in touch with the hiring manager, offer to take her to lunch so you can provide her with the information she needs to
21、deliver a strong referral. Describe your major professional accomplishments, and relate them to why you think you would be an ideal candidate for the listed position. By offering up the information she needs, you not only increase your chances of obtaining an interview, but you also make her look go
22、od to her coworkers by contributing an informed recommendation. Before you even know if you ve obtained the interview, send your referrer a thank-you note. Youll let her know that regardless of the outcome, you appreciate her time and effort. And even if this position doesnt pan out for you, your gr
