4、 shall:a) Not be rated greater than 120 V;b) Not have a maximum appliance current draw through the supply cord greater than 15 Aunder a locked-rotor condition including the current draw of lamps and external devices;c) Be constructed of an 18 AWG minimum flexible cord of Type SJT or heavier duty;d)

5、Not be longer than 6 ft (1.83 m); ande) Incorporate a grounding conductor and be terminated with a grounding type attachment plug.Exception (for item e): A residential garage door operator that does not have exposed dead metal parts,nor dead metal parts within its enclosure that are exposed to conta

6、ct by the user or serviceman, and thatare likely to become energized, is not required to be provided with a grounding means; see 25.1. Whengrounding is not provided, a power supply cord with grounding conductor and grounding type attachmentplug shall not be used.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:For many cord-

7、connected residential garage door operators covered under UL 325, there is a metalenclosure and/or metal parts inside the product that might be contacted by the user or service person andmay become live in the event of a fault. UL 325 addresses this and requires these parts to be reliablyconnected t

8、o the equipment-grounding conductor of the cord. As products have evolved, more and moreplastic is being used for the enclosure, mounting means, and other parts, and now some products haveno metal as part of the enclosure, and no metal inside that product that is likely to become energized ata hazar

9、dous voltage level in the event of a fault.The requirements in UL 325 did not consider these newer constructions, so this Certification RequirementDecision is intended to clarify when a grounding means is not required. It also clarifies when no groundingmeans is provided, a grounding type cord and a
