BS EN 132778:2017EN 13277-8:2017 (E) 4 Introduction Karate face protectors are individual elements in protection equipment for protecting the upper part of the face: nose, cheekbones, eyebrows, temple and eyes in the practice of karate. They are designed to provide a high degree of secu

29、rity in case of accidental contact during the practice of karate. A hard and uncontrolled knock in the face can produce severe injuries. BS EN 132778:2017EN 13277-8:2017 (E) 5 1 Scope This European Standard specifies additional test methods and requirements for face protectors, used in the practice

30、of karate. This European Standard is not applicable for other sports equipment and protectors except face protectors for karate, because the test methods and requirements are very specific for karate face protectors and do not meet the characteristics of face protectors for other sports. 2 Normative

33、tectors, shin protectors and forearm protectors EN 168, Personal eye-protection - Non-optical test methods 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in EN 13277-1 and EN 168 apply. 4 Requirements 4.1 General The general requirements for karate face pr

34、otectors shall be in accordance with EN 13277-1. The design of the karate face protector shall indicate on how to put on and remove the face protector. The karate face protector shall be transparent, preferably made from colourless material. The parts of the karate face protector which are in contac

35、t with the user shall be free from rough edges, sharp edges and/or protruding parts that could cause harm. Highly flexible and smooth parts shall be used in this area. 4.2 Openings Karate face protectors shall be designed in such a way that both the eyes and the ears can function without being obstr

36、ucted. In addition, there shall not be any impediment to breathing through the nostrils or the mouth. 4.3 Mass The mass of the karate face protector excluding the harness shall be: 110 g for size S; 130 g for size M; 150 g for size L. 37、or each size shall be 50 g. 4.4 Size The size is the circumference, the length of the periphery measured at the level on the reference plane EF in accordance with Figure 1. The karate face protector restraint system shall be in accordance with EN 13277-1:

41、2000, 4.3, except of the third paragraph of that section. During each individual test, the karate face protector shall not move 2 mm from its original position. Test in accordance with 5.5. 4.8 Nose clearance When the karate face protector is correctly adjusted according to the user instructions, th

42、e clearance between the tip of the nose (of polyurethane headform in accordance with Figure 1) and the karate face protector shall be 30 mm for sizes M and L, and 20 mm for size S. Test in accordance with 5.6. 4.9 Protection zone The karate face protector shall protect the zone from the points E and

43、 F to 15 mm below the tip of the nose according to Figure 2 (shaded area). 44、 damage to the mask shall occur after applying a force of (+100200 ) N, for sizes L and M, and a force of (+100150 ) N for size S. After the test, the karate face protector shall not show any signs of breakage or bursting and shall regain its initial shape and curvature after being left at rest. Tes

45、t in accordance with 5.8. 4.11 Impact strength The karate face protector shall withstand an impact without signs of breakage or bursting. Test is accordance with 5.9. 5 Test methods 5.1 General If no special test methods are specified, it shall be tested by measurement, visual inspection, tactile ex

46、amination. The karate face protectors used for testing shall be new and unused. Headforms according to EN 168 (Figure 1) shall be used for the tests; medium size head for protector sizes M and L, and small size head for protector size S. 5.2 Sampling The sampling shall be in accordance with EN 13277

47、-1:2000, 5.1. BS EN 132778:2017EN 13277-8:2017 (E) 10 5.3 Conditioning The conditioning shall be in accordance with EN 13277-1:2000, 5.2. 5.4 Field of vision The karate face protector shall be adjusted in accordance with the manufacturers instructions, aligning horizontally, the bottom protecting zo

48、ne of the nose of the karate face protector, with the tip of the nose (c measure from the top of the head), of the headform. Vertically, the karate face protector shall be centred. The opening for the eyes shall be in line with the reference plane. Test in accordance with EN 13087-6, except that no

49、ballast mass is used. In that position, determine, using angle protractors or other methods to calculate, the angles of the field of vision. The karate face protector shall be placed on the headform using the restraint system which is placed anteriorly horizontal in
