In this revision, which uses me
13、tric units throughout, only light duty mild steel drums with removable heads are specified, the heavy duty drums of this type now being excluded. Nominal drum capacities from15litres to120 litres have been provided for, nominal capacities being used for identification purposes with maximum and minim
14、um volumetric capacities being specified as an aid to filling calculations. A reduction has been made in the number of drum diameters specified. Drums of a given capacity and diameter are now classified according to the thickness of sheet material from which they are made, rather than according to d
15、rum style as classified previously. Six classes of drum are now specified. Drum handles, where fitted, are specified in terms of performance. Minimum ullage is no longer specified expressly although allowance for ullage is implicit in the specification of both nominal and volumetric capacities. Cert
16、ain alternative requirements are permitted in this standard and purchasers should give full information as to their requirements when ordering. For their guidanceAppendix B lists those items regarding which purchasers preferences, if any, should be stated. A British Standard does not purport to incl
17、ude all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. 19、ld steel (coated or uncoated) drums with removable heads with nominal capacities ranging from15litres to120litres. Appendix A gives approximate Birmingham Gauge equivalents for thickness,Appendix B lists the information to be supplied by the purchaser when ordering andAppendix C gives methods of sea
20、ling. 2 References The titles of the British Standards referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 3 Material (body and ends) 3.1 Quality. The drums shall be made from annealed low carbon mild steel sheets 1) . If so specified by the purchaser the sheets shall be tin coated (se
21、e BS2920), galvanized (see BS2989) or otherwise treated. 3.2 Thickness. The thickness of the sheet metal used for the body and ends shall comply with the values given inTable 1. Variations in thickness shall comply with limits specified in BS1449-1, BS2920 and BS2989, as appropriate. 4 Styles This s
22、tandard covers the four basic types of open ended drum as follows. 5 Construction 5.1 Body. The body of the drum shall be made from a single sheet of metal. When a drum is made from uncoated mild steel sheet the longitudinal seam shall be welded. When a drum is made from tinplate, galvanized or othe
23、rwise treated steel sheet the longitudinal seam shall be folded, locked and soldered; alternatively, the seam shall be welded and, if required, suitably recoated internally and externally. The top of the body shall be curled or shaped to receive the removable head. 5.2 Drums with plain or beaded bod
24、ies. Clip kegs may be supplied with or without strengthening beads adjacent to the aperture. Ring kegs and pails shall incorporate the strengthening bead. 5.3 Drums with pressed out rolling hoops. Drums with internal diameter greater than355.6mm shall have two pressed rolling hoops projecting beyond
