9、SI 1998 1 BS 1692 : 1998 Foreword This British Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee MHE/3. It supersedes BS 1692 : 1971, which is Withdrawn. The principal changes that have been made are as follows: a) corrections to dimensions; b) elimination of anomalies in the table; c) improvements

10、to design parameters; d) general update to the writing style and format. As this revision of BS 1692 was prepared there was no comparative standard, in terms of subject coverage, in the work programme of the relevant European Technical Committee (CEN/TC 168). The primary objective of this specificat

11、ion is to provide requirements for safety and reliability of lifting equipment without placing restrictions on the general design or the methods employed in construction. It has been assumed in the drafting of this British Standard that the execution of its provisions is entrusted to appropriately q

12、ualified and experienced people. 14、r. 11 8 BSI 1998 BS 1692 : 1998 Specification 1 Scope This British Standard specifies the design, construction and testing of fibre rope gin blocks for the hoisting and lowering of loads up to 250 kg. 2 References 2.1 Normative references This British Standard incorporates, by dated or undated refer

Editions of these publications current at the time of issue of this standard are listed on the inside back cover, but reference should be made to the latest editions. 3 Definition For the purposes of this British Standard, the following definition applies. 3.1 gin block Sheave h

18、oused in a frame, suspended by a swivel hook or ring, used with fibre rope for the raising and lowering of a load. NOTE. This is sometimes referred to as a gin wheel. 4 Design 4.1 Design strength The gin block, including the hook or eyebolt, shall be designed to withstand the proof loading specified

19、 in 5.1 without physical distortion. 4.2 Form and general dimensions The gin block shall conform to 4.3 to 4.8. NOTE. Typical details and dimensions are given in table A.l for a 250 kg swivel gin block with a fabricated sheave (see figure A.l) or a rolled forin sheave (see figure A.2). 4.3 Frames Fr

20、ames shall be so constructed that no weld is subject to a tensile stress resulting directly froni the load carried. Gin blocks shall be so designed as to minimize the risk of jamming the rope between the frame and the sheave. All through holes shall be machined in true alignment and normal to their

21、respective surfaces. The hole in the crosshead of the frame shall be suitably countersunk to acconimodate the radius at the root of the shank of the hook or eyebolt. 4.4 Suspension devices 4.4.1 General Gin block suspension shall be by either a hook or an eyebolt, see annex B. 4.4.2 Hooks Hooks shal

22、l be forged from steel and the appropriate size should be selected from BS 2903 : 1980. NOTE. Attention is drawn to the Construction (Lifting Operations) Regulations 19G1. Regulation 36 concerning prevention of displacement i 4.4.3 Eyebolts An eyebolt from BS 4278 : 1984 shall be used. 4.4.4 Fitting

23、 Shanks of hooks or eyebolts shall either be: a) provided with a nut or screwed collar of outside diameter of at least 1.5 times the diameter of the shank the continuous length of shank engaged by the nut or screwed collar on the load side shall be equal to at least 0.75 times the diameter of the sh

24、ank before being interrupted by drilling for pins or other fixings; or b) so shaped from the solid as to afford the same security as though a nut were fitted as in a). 4.5 Axle pins The machining tolerance on the bearing surface of the axle pins shall be The thickness of the pin head shall be not le

25、ss than 0.25 times the diameter of the pin and the diameter of the pin head shall be sufficiently large to retain the pin in position. The tail end of the pin shall project a distance of not less than 10 min and be cross-drilled and fitted with a suitable split cotter pin in accordance with BS 1574

26、: 1972. The machined bearing surface of the axle pin shall be smooth, bright and clean. To prevent rotation, the axle pin shall be positively secured either by keying to the frame or by other equally effective means. 4.6 Sheaves 4.6.1 Form The sides of sheaves shall have no apertures. The width of t

27、he central boss in the finished sheave shall be greater than the width of the rim by not less than 3 mm and not more than 8 mm. The axle pinhole shall be concentric with the rope groove. The faces of the bosses shall be machined square with the axle pin hole. mm. BSI 1998 1 BS 1692 : 1998 4.6.2 Groo

28、ve The sheave rope groove shall be smoothly finished and shall have a depth of not less than 0.5 times the diameter of the largest rope for which the gin block is designed. The width at the top of the groove (dimension B in figures A.l and A.2) shall be at least 1.3 times the diameter of the largest

29、 rope for which the block is designed. All edges of the groove shall be rounded and all surfaces shall be free from projections or other defects likely to cause darnage to the rope. 4.6.3 Fitting When fitted the sheave shall rotate freely by hand. 4.7 Clearances The openings in the frame shall be la

30、rge enough to prevent contact with, and chafing of, the rope. The total clearance between the rim of the sheave and the frame shall not exceed 6 min. The total clearance between the hole in the crosshead and the shank of the hook or eyebolt shall not exceed 1 mm. The total clearance between the axle

31、 pin and the holes in the frame, and between the axle pin and the sheave bore shall not exceed 0.5 mm. 4.8 Marking The following information shall be permanently and legibly marked on a non-stressed part of the frame, eyebolt, or hook of each gin block1): a) distinguishing number or certification id

32、entifying mark (see clause 5.2); b) safe working load (in kg); e) maximum diameter of rope to be used d) nanie of manufacturer or supplier; e) the number of this British Standard. 5 Testing and certification 5.1 Proof test 5.1.1 Test procedure Each gin block shall be tested by a proof load of twice

33、the safe working load. NOTE. As a result, the hook or ring is subjected to four times the safe working load. After testing each gin block shall then be thoroughly examined by a competent person for signs of deformation or damage. 5.1.2 Acceptance criteria After proof loading the hook and sheave shal

34、l rotate freely. The axle pin and sheave of each gin block shall then be removed and all parts thoroughly examined. The gin block shall be deemed to be acceptable only if found to be free from deformation, cracks, flaws or other defects. 5.2 Certificate of test and examination The gin block manufact

35、urer or supplier shall provide a certificate for each consignment of blocks, giving the following information for each one: a) distinguishing niark or number (as marked on the gin block (see 4.8); b) description; c) number in consignment; d) proof load applied; e) safe working load f) date the test

36、and examination were completed. The certificate shall declare that each gin block was proof loaded in accordance with 5.1, was subsequently thoroughly examined by a competent person, and that it conforms to BS 1692. It shall also state the name and address of the testing establishment and the status

37、 of the signatory. 1 Marking BS 1692 : 1998 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e. a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of the claim is solely the claimants responsibility.
